I used Zonealarm firewall for along time so I expected good items from the anti virus. I was disappointed. Updating virus data was erratic. It caught fewer intrusions than AVG. Then they released an application update that refused to set up on Win XP. It claimed SP3 has not been present though it was.

My main problem with ZoneAlarm was their removable media scans slowed progress with a crawl when working with CDs or Floppy disks.
I would rate it as being above average.
ZoneAlarm ended up my trusted anti virus and firewall for decades. It is always employed in the background non-intrusively.
However nowadays I need to manually update the anti virus. Lately when I make it happen the update ceases to download. I tried it for several days but with no success.
Also a default setting in its firewall for trusted local network was set to high or medium. This caused a shared printer to become unavailable. It took me events of tweaking before I found out this default setting in ZoneAlarm was resulting in the problem.
Since it is just a trusted local network the default setting needs to be minimal or none. The Windows settings - which is needless to say can be confusing - ought of do. The recent version of ZoneAlarm caused my old HP laptop running on XP to hold rebooting. This may be the worst interface design I have ever seen. With all the wasted space and scrolling and multiclicking instructed to manage this
mess, it appears to be designed by some DONT they put the info on the screen as an alternative to forcing you to definitely SCROLL or drop down context menus because of it. The lack of gridlines causes many wasted time scrolling forward and backward to verify that you're tick/unticking the best thing. Ive been a loyal ZoneAlarm client for decades. I had thought their free firewall product was robust, simple, reliable. As I needed a number of the advanced features hard to get at in the free edition, I upgraded to ZA Pro since ZA Pro v6.5, and have absolutely renewed my support/maintenance subscription religiously, figuring that my money can be going to secure the continued growth of a superior product.

It was this is the best firewall and threat protection software out there and worth it. It was easily configurable for novice people, but had an abundance of advanced configuration selections for more advanced users. In ONE single release v10 - 2012, it can be now the WORST software in the marketplace. Get it together Check Point, you simply lost another customer!

Excellent review, you told it just how I see it too. This new edition hogs up a lot bandwidth that while it can be on it truly is next to impossible to see netflix movies at will without the video being choppy, the earlier version never caused any problems but this newest version sucks system resources major. And you might be right, the moderators in the so called help forum is not going to allow newbies to post and inquire questions, so forget that option! I have been a zonelabs fan for 10 years however its time for any change, they've got took a great program and bloated it making it a resource hogging section of junk. You get no support with this program. My DSL speed is 1.5mb download 256k upload and I am competent to watch streaming videos on netflix without any troubles given that this software is turn off totally. Win XP sp3 2gigs ram.

How different to Symantec! They couldnt are more helpful when they tried. I had used all of my 3 activations of NIS 2012, when I rebuilt my PC, it really was an IM away at a techie to reset my account. I was reactivated about the rebuilt PC within ten minutes. 10/10 to Symantec.

I had to see them many times what version I was on, my computer OS, even my chip speed. The most suggestions they made was reset defaults and reinstall. So 1980s.
They were built with a variety of excuses between my version had not been the latest - on the other hand update program installed it - to they should have downloaded in my opinion a dial-up version. Huh?
Their chat system was horrible - giving me constant erroneous canned comments and also the reps saying they were not getting my responses.
The reps showed no support services care with out technical expertise.
I wanted my a refund under their advertised guarantee however they said I did not qualify.
I called my local internet provider and numerous people in that staff said they hear complaints regularly about Zone Alarm. They had me unistall Zone Alarm and install AVG Free. Now my computer is returning to its old self and I am happy!
I wish to save somebody else from undergoing my unacceptable experience.
