Yes XP is just not perfect but hardly slow when compared to the bloated and rushed VISTA. If you execute a clean install with XP and your pc is still slow it is your hardware or you could have the wrong drivers installed. This isn't XPs fault.
The alternative is to buy a whole new computer with 7. You can get a whole new one for several hundred and should you need a great computer for tech then it is possible to build your own for some hundred at the same time.
