I put a different hard drive into my laptop and installed the OEM Vista Premium. Installed fine - less difficult than XP but I did have a first battle with drivers. I had the first driver disc which I tried to make use of for the computer but Vista was having non of the usb ports and going on line became a non starter using the wireless because was one on the drivers that has been unloadable. Fortunately when I used a cable, Vista did an automobile update and all from the missing drivers were installed via Microsofts own website. They went in seamlessly and my laptop works more effectively than before. So a little scare as well as a good auto support system. Using Vista hasnt changed my entire life - does exactly the same things as XP but with a fresh shiny look. The one big difference may be the speed of starting and closing - fast, fast, fast. As regards security, well I didnt come with an issue with XP as I kept the standard safeguards constantly in place so I have zero doubt the same thing will have for being done with Vista. So overall for 70 quid a fair upgrade, but I wouldnt spend the 150 quid the non OEM would cost.

When XP Home was introduced, it would be a significant improvement over Win98 plus the awful WinME. Win XP pro was, well, comparable to Win2000 however with prettier graphics. Anyway XP as being a whole became a good thing. Try as I might I cant say the identical about Vista. The new visual check out Vista is awful to my eyes at the very least and every one of the visual toys activities like eye candy. The layout changes to menus etc also just be it awkward to work with for seasoned Windows users. With the many superficial changes it doesnt do much that's new - it simply makes doing precisely the same old stuff awkward and involves a lot of re-training of PC users, especially inside the workplace. To add insult to injury, you will discover alot of software compatibility issues too.
There is a good thing about Vista. As an IT support guy. I keep busy wiping Vista off new machines and installing XP. Please dont end the deal on OEM XP to soon Mr

It can be quite resource hungry. You really need a minimum of 2GB ram to own properly, although Im managing on 1GB.
The premium version does come wih media centre, handy for any home media computer. Its pretty, fairly easy to use for beginners or folks that just are unsure all that much about computers.
If you've got any hardware over several years old then they may well not work as you can find no drivers for vista. I had to buy a whole new webcam and new graphics card.
If you're upgrading from XP, I wouldnt if you don't want extra features, for instance media centre although obviously you could because of the XP version of media centre before upgrading visit and run the upgrade advisor to ensure that your hardware works.

well i happen to be beta testing since october, and i've had no problems what so ever with vista, so made a decision to take the plunge with home premium, and have absolutely not been disappointed, operational within twenty or so minutes and no issue with any drivers, other than audio card which dell sports their website, i wont spend the money for top whack for premium so went with the oem pack for a fraction over Р±С‘70 money spent well,

Slick, smooth because title suggests. The interface is suitably modern looking and also the quick fade-in and out if you open or close a window is usually a nice touch. There is however, lots of confirmation appear boxes that seem to need to confirm whatever you do. Security wise I make use of Norton and also other measures, so that may be of limited importance in my opinion. I had no real downside to XP as a possible interface, but the brand new feel of Vista is great and if it really is an improvement on XP we should all be better off.
Long time coming this upgrade, as well as its going nowhere so get familiar with it!

Ive been using Vista HP for a number of months now and also have got to like it though it took some getting familiar with and Im an IT professional of various years. Admittedly, it came pre-installed in my new Dell Dimension 530 PC with 2Gb RAM so I don't have any from-scratch installation experience to debate, but like with each new edition of Windows, starting point - you'll need an up-to-date machine! I did provide an old broadband modem but took the precaution of downloading its drivers onto CD and yes it installed wonderful, as did my HP Photosmart 7400 printer.
Most on the comments produced by disgruntled Vista users here and elsewhere could are actually written by disgruntled XP users soon after its launch many moons ago!
Vista boots up more speedily than XP and appears fantastic. The way it handles pictures, videos and music is pure poetry. Insert a music CD plus it rips it on your disk without prompting. Click on media centre, the album cover is I say more! Insert your memory stick, up pops a menu with distinctive options. Click one of them and your photos are copied to a fresh dated folder.
Sure, XP will do many of the same and not as elegantly input it this way - who you rather take away for dinner? Anne Widdecombe or Michelle Pfieffer?. It is very stable rather than crashed once since Ive worn the extender. Its not just prettier, its faster, plus more intuitive, though as I said, it lets you do take a bit to getting used too. Its an extremely bigger change than say Win 98 to XP.
In short, if you're buying a brand new machine, be bold and select Vista - Home Premium has all of the sexy features and will probably be best for most users. Get a Dummies book when you worried, I did nevertheless its sat on my small shelf untouched as Ive got a chance to grips along with it in my own, personal time. Read more

I was required to get a copy of vista because my hard disk drive went down and I didnt employ a back up disc. i thought this was the cheapest method of getting vista back in my pc. Read more
