This was purchased to change the Windows XP software on my own home computer. Walmart doesn t mention it within the description but this is certainly just the System Builder or OEM version. For those upgrading from Windows XP, and don t hold the hardware to back up Windows 8, that is a great solution. Because on the hardware requirements of Windows 8 I don t think Windows 7 are going to be going away before i write again. I currently use Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit in my personal PC, but we use Windows 7 on a great many other PC s inside our home both 32 and 64 bit. I do like Windows 8 just a little faster than 7 but overall I think I like 7 the most beneficial. Maybe a year from now it will probably be Windows 8. This product works and installed flawlessly. You will have to execute a custom install should you be upgrading from XP though.

The description said windows 7 starter but this product is actually an upgrade disk SO THEY CANNOT BE USED AS A WINDOWS STARTER. I don't possess any machines which might be running windows starter and so the upgrade disks are not any good in my experience. I bought 2 of which and opened them both so I cannot get my money back. The undeniable fact that I needed to buy this within the first place taught me to be upset, because my computer was gimped by its very own operating system. The netbook I bought this for came that has a 64-bit processor and windwos 7 starter 32-bit. I thought that by upgrading using this type of it would come together with the 64-bit version, being because it says: Takes full advantage on the power and multi-tasking capabilities with the latest 64-bit PC and Takes full good thing about 64-bit PC hardware and memory. But it doesn't. In fact after doing more check out microsoft site says it wouldn't upgrade a 32-bit operating system to some 64-bit. But heres the worst part, windows 7 starter doesn't come in a very 64-bit, making it impossible. So why are these claims description mentioning anything 64-bit?

As a netbook buyer, I was disappointed to get that Microsoft thought so little of my company they only included a half an os - Windows 7 STARTER? I decided maybe I was being cheap somehow, so I invested from the upgrade to Windows Home Premium, and from now on Im asking myself WHY. There doesnt seem to become anything IN this device other than a chance to put with your own desktop picture. OK, maybe a bit more than that, but to date Ive found no usefulness and Im sorry I spent the amount of money. Apparently the upgrade allows you to look at videos/movies IF you also go out and buy an outside DVD, nevertheless, this isnt what I purchased my netbook for, so spending more for accessories I dont need to be able to justify the updgrade seems a lttle bit whacko.

My laptop crashed and needed to get replaced. Old laptop was on XP Pro; a different one on Win 7 Premium Home. One of my old software programs wouldn't work on Win 7, and it also is no more supported, but I needed to put it to use. Research laughed and said I could produce a Virtual PC operating on XP but only from Win 7 Pro. So I bought the unlock code. It worked fine. I have now created Virtual PC and will access my needed old software package in that manner. Couple minor problems. First, a Virtual PC is a separate PC. It won't have entry to the antivirus software installed about the Win 7 PC. Fortunately my ISP offers free downloads of Norton PC. Laptop had McAfee I wouldn't want it as a consequence of my free usage of antivirus from my ISP, but I had no choice. So I now develop the main laptop protected by McAfee along with the Virtual PC protected by Norton. Upgrade downloads occur separately and require separate reboots to adopt effect. There is no conflict because they're effectively two separate computers. Second, Win 7 has separated screen resolution from font size, two functions joined in XP. On XP I always selected one step down on resolution so I could see the fonts. In Win 7, I can now use max resolution and larger fonts. But when I visit Virtual PC, I cannot change resolution. So I either ought to step down in resolution before invoking Virtual PC or I am saddled with microscopic fonts.
