We got a new new HP laptop with Win 7 Pro 64 bit preinstalled in July 2013 at a reputable I think online dealer. I installed the free version of Avast and initially all was well, and bootup time was very swift. After of a month or 2, I was prompted to update Avast, which I did. Immediately 2 problems cropped up. First, bootup time became very painfully slow sometimes nearly 5 minutes or maybe more before your computer is fully operational. Once it had been booted up, this didn't seem particularly slow anymore. Second, we started to get the message inside the lower right that copy of Windows is just not genuine build 7601. This message can be seen only occasionally quite often it does NOT appear, also it does not appear to have any noticeable effect unless it truly is related to your slow bootup time. The screen shows our normal wallpaper. Reading somewhere that Avast can have caused the slow bootup time, I uninstalled Avast and instead installed the free version of AVG, which I still use. But both problems persist slow bootup and occasional windows not genuine message. I believe my copy of Windows is reputable, but interestingly, the computer will not have a COA sticker, at the very least no that I can find. We also will not have Win 7 disk from MS only from HP. I strongly suspect that Avast caused the situation, but I have no idea how to remedy it. Below may be the MGADiag report.
Your symptoms are routine of a race condition - possibly caused by a conflict between AV along with software.
I indicate uninstalling Avast completely, and running their cleanup tool.
What other AVs have already been installed whether or not not activated? - most includes a free trial install of either Norton or McAfee, so its worth running the removal tools for both.
Click Save, and save the file into a folder on your pc.
Navigate towards the folder in places you saved the file.
right-click on and select Run as Administrator to perform the removal tool.
Close other programs, then run the tool. When its complete, reboot your machine whether it requests for it or otherwise.
After the reboot, open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the subsequent command
Youll be advised to reboot - do it.
Now uninstall Avast - with all the normal Control Panel uninstaller.
Follow the instructions for running it, and once complete, reboot the appliance.
Allow it to pay back down for ten mins or so, then reboot again and reinstall Avast rrmprove it.
Monitors Displays 15.6 built-in
Internet Speed around I can get - usually on the dongle, so 1Mb/s
Thanks on your help. I really be thankful.
I already had uninstalled Avast and installed AVG instead a few months ago. I followed your steps otherwise, and as well uninstalled AVG. I tried the Avast cleaner anyway, nevertheless it asked for the place where Avast files were stored, nevertheless the Avast folder already was gone from my earlier uninstall awhile ago. So Im not positive that the Avast cleaner actually did anything.
But, with all of AV software uninstalled I thought, bootup seemed slightly faster. I reinstalled Avast, and immediately things got MUCH worse. First a window appeared telling me that there were 2 AVs installed I guess MSE was another? Also, bootup times got VERY long, as much as 10 minutes usually longer prior to a desktop icons even appeared. And then hitting an icon ahead of the bootup was complete seemingly triggered punishment because it seemed to take even longer to start!
Tonight the Windows not genuine message appeared again. I ran the NETSH WINSOCK RESET command again and uninstalled Avast. Now I have only MSE for AV software I think, as well as the desktop icons appear right away upon booting. Unfortunately, nevertheless takes quite awhile 5-ten mins before simply clicking on one in the icons or even the start button actually does anything.
I could keep monitoring and report a few weeks how bootup will be, and if the not genuine maessage reappears.
Ah - I might have misunderstood things just a little. Sorry
AVG also can leave stuff behind. - along with the residuals from any AV can restrict the proper installation of the later one.
If you didnt already accomplish that, run the Avast cleanup tool again, then run the 2012 and 2014 versions from the AVG
Follow the instructions for running it, and after that reboot the equipment whether it requests it or otherwise not, and whether or not the program rebooted already or otherwise.
Then uninstall MSE, reboot, and reinstall it - this will get rid of any residual corruption a result of possible left-overs.
I did run the 2014 version of AVG remover, although not the 2012 version. Ill accomplish that this weekend. But before I ran the 2014 version, I first uninstalled AVG from your control panel. Running the remover then ended in some error messages I guess it experimented with remove files it could possibly no longer find.
First, if I uninstall MSE through the control panel, could it leave residual?
Second, would you recommend reinstalling MSE again, or other sorts of AV? I understand that MSE is lightweight in comparison to some other free AVs like Avast or AVG. I liked Avast when I first installed it almost a year ago, but am wary since it might be a significant resource hog the setup file is 80 mb.
Third, the Avast cleanup tool demanded a location the spot that the relevant files are found. But the folder called Avast is finished when the program is uninstalled through the control panel. What do I specify as the place? I did run the tool again last week and just place in Program Files/Avast however the folder Avast lo longer existed or wasn't visible?. The cleanup tool warned that files inside specified folder could well be irretrievable deleted. Upon execution, it flashed a note about deleting something. But I am uncertain whether it actually did anything.
Thanks again. Im learning something.
MSE features a very light touch, and uninstalls cleaner than almost all with the others even with running a selection of their removal tools, occasionally.
MSEs setup file is just about 10MB - however the definitions and engine download which starts its use is about 70MB last I looked. Nothing nowadays will go to be much smaller, simply because on the complexity of the its fighting.
I recently installed avast internet security 2015 in my computer. Yesterday I used the bootup scan option. I normally use bootup scan without and problems but that has been with Avast antivirus Free version. After the scan finished I logged onto my usual profile and then be greeted using this type of
