I love Windows 7 but my experience activating quite sure was a lot less than optimal. I installed clean over XP upon an older machine. I allowed it to complete a clean install as I had already removed everything I wanted to retain through the PC.
Everything went fine until I started receiving the warning message to activate my copy of Windows. I tried entering and reentering the merchandise key within the disc envelope. Each time I got a blunder stating that the main element was invalid.

I chose to set up this window 7 os on my laptop and it also installed perfectly and as expected. The CD came together with the genuine Microsoft product critical for register the operatoring system with Microsoft. Good for one computer and re installation to the same computer if I have to. Keep the product or service key just in case you must reinstall later. I chose windows 7 over windows 8 because doing so performs solid. This CD already includes service pack one.

The disk that I received is usually a Dell OE DVD. I performed a clean install erased the disk with a Lenovo T60 laptop.

To keep Win 7 from slowing me on a very old machine, I put it on the new 240GB Intel SSD drive. When installing, pick Custom Drive Options. The only difficulty is always that so many updates and patches happen to be issued by Microsoft since Service Pack 1. Over 180 of those marked important plus a few more marked optional. I tried to perform them all within a fell swoop understanding that caused Win 7 to choke. Its best to accomplish them in groups, and restart after each group: Internet Explorer ones first, then regular Win 7 security patches, then other non-security Win 7 patches, next patches, finally, any driver or equipment updates. I wouldnt install any on the optional updates until reading about them first.
