I recommend VMFUSION for virtual machine operation.
My sister had trouble running some Windows legal software BestCase within Parallels virtual machine disappearing application window. We tried various fixes it doesn't help. The law software tech said he seen exactly the same problem, whenever with Parallels. I decided to change to VMFusion. Much easier install in the virtual machine and much more intuitive interface. So far, the disappearing app problem has not yet occurred. She is pleased.
You must pay extra for support later.
It is supposedly the cheaper selection for fusion products, but dont buy worked for your first 10 months and after this it is try finding the way to get support about the VMWare Fusion website! It is an absolute minefield these guys dont use a clue the best way to do business.

Major complications with Windows 7 and printing. The program selects a new printer than my default Mac printer and after changing and printing one page Windows becomes unusable and I obtain a nasty message from Windows.
I downloaded Parallels 7 this morning, converted my Windows 7 VM virtual machine and things are working beautifully.
Only at the bottom on the FAQ page would you like to find that the upgrade is for recent buyers since Lion. All others must buy new at top dollar 50 to get a ltd time. If 4.0.1 is installed after that link to buy goes into a broken page Digital River.
I am not being critical on the pricing, as it's time to collect some dough for development. My complaint is usually that the pricing policy is just not readily available for existing users. And as with this date I being a registered user haven't received any email announcement on the upgrade or its pricing. And as noted above, it truly is difficult to locate it about the web site. And I wouldn't find little while for 50 defined anywhere - just how much time do I have prior to the price increases? I got burned by doing this with iStat Menus last upgrade, since the price expired prior to a trial did. It would be nice to never be kept at night.

I am running Win7 from a Boot Camp disk, and everything just seems dramatically faster. The UI is snappy and windows took about 50 % of the time and energy to load.

Fusion 3.1 installed perfectly and with virtually no issues. XP usually boot faster and runs reasonably quickly. Must qualify that however as XP hasn't ever been fast. IE and software Update started and worked quite quickly. Windows Explorer opened within 5 seconds over a 2.4GHz macBook. Word opened rolling around in its normal lethargic rate. Overall seems slightly faster.
Fusion excels on USB connections. In cases where Windows-only applications are required to control USB-connected machines for the Mac, only Fusion works without having a hitch. Other alternatives like Parallels just cannot deliver on such scenario, crashing and losing the USB connection with all the machine all time.

From OK to bad solution. Better solutions available?
Older versions VMware Workstation 6 7 and 8 did wonders enough to own XP along with VMs on Win Vista 64, Win 7 and 8 at enough time. They were very happy to call back on problem with Workstation 9 but no software solution for USB 3 issue they admit to.
Purchased upgrade to 9 and also a new 9. Did not use USB 3 well. Consider other choices now. Only calendar month for refund. Too much work to determine. They will not stand behind this version or refund, only say 10 has fixed that which was broken in 9. Version 9 would be a rip off. Regret upgrading. Should have bound to 8 and located another solution.
Better solutions in existence. Company went downhill. VMware wouldn't stand behind and correct an entire version 9 which had a lifespan approximately a year.
