The teach yourself series usually gives a few well-worked-out problems, but invariably leaves one dangling and confused. My copy had inaccuracies inside solutions section.
This book isn't an ideal way to master calculus. To learn calculus solidly, see Robert and Carol Ashs The Calculus Tutoring Book.
To paraphrase Monty Python, This isn't a book to read. This is the sunday paper for setting up and avoiding.
I used the last edition of Loomis when I took Calculus. The book explains the content so well that I taught myself reading the novel. The examples are plenty of and particularly good in showing both simple and easy difficult problems. Some books only show be simple problems or insufficient various them. If anyone includes a trouble with this book, serious article on algebra 2 is usually recommended.
As for a few of the previous reviews, there is absolutely no section 5.1.1 or 5.1.2, unless these are talking about a previous edition, which I have not seen. There is no mistake in section 5.1 or 5.2. But there are many mistakes inside the answers inside the back.
Looking back at the ebook now, I prefer what Swokowski did together with the series chapter superior Loomis has interesting discussions on irrational numbers etc, but for the expense of losing the main focus. But Loomis does one with the best job in introducing vectors and procedures of several variables. The chapter on Greens theorem is extremely nice, too. The chapter on multiple integral begins by nevertheless it is only an introduction like several other book when it reaches this level. What I realize will be that one needs to go on advanced calculus or vector calculus to get down those things. I like Shueys vector calculus, and after mastering that book, Bucks advanced calculus.
So when I was 16 I asked my teacher how could I learn calculus. He pointed me to a earlier version on this book by Abbott alone. Over the summer holidays for the end of 4th year senior high school, I read it cover to pay and learned calculus. I passed the publication on to my daughter. I am now and possess been for 20 years, a professor of theoretical chemistry. This is a good book.
This is ideal for a quick review/reference manual for somebody already studying Calculus. For comprehensive reference notes, mainly for somebody learning or who uses math within their daily job.
My friend Loved the Calculus book I got him, now they are reading and doing the issues all the time.

I liked the ebook. It was accesible and unpedantic. I had tried several other sources before this place, and in addition they all had an over-all tendency to become unapproachable. But it explained things clearly and concisely. It has many examples, and theyre generally clearly worked.
The only a pair of things to which I take exception are usually in section 5.1.2, the place where a careless error is produced that did actually leave me saying what, plus the lack of creative kind of excercises thoughout it. To be honest though, I never really did any in the exercises, and I understood calculus wonderfully after reading this book.
As an additional plus, despite most academic books, this one is extremely cheap. Give it a try!
