I have tried many home plan programs. I am a novice. This program is quite easy to get rolling without having to look at entire manual. But if you need to get more indept with your drawings, you are actually experiencing the many tutorials and manual to help you you out. I will definitely use it that can help me with rooflines, elevations, etc. I would recommend this system to others. Ive used several cheap 3D home design programs Chief Architect, Punch Pro Home Design, Trimble SketchUp 8, Edificius this also one and from these five this blog is easily the most beneficial balance between price, features and usability. Its while doing so more powerful and much easier to learn compared to first three. But its nearly perfect. In my attempt to locate a more powerful program I came across Edificius, an Italian 3D program which costs nothing and is particularly much more capable but can be a real to find out and use than FP3D. But for some reason Edificius wont ok, i'll import external objects it gives me a blunder so Ive fallen to FP3D Pro which I recently bought just for 20 for v16, the last version.
Not lots of in v16 although, Ive yet for more information on most of FP3Ds many features:
1. The roof generator is a little glitchy. It works acceptable for simple roofs but wont help odd ones. Solution: Use the Roof by picking points option. If that fails then draw a surface for the desired shape and after that go into Properties and change it to your roof.
2. The view navigation features walk around, fly around, research and slide are VERY sensitive. Move the mouse a lot of and presto, youre off into neverneverland.
3. Youre on a only five or six floors with your project, but to become fair, this can be a limitation of just about all home design programs the sole exception seems to get Edificius, which usually allow around 1000 floors!. Besides, when you only designing a home 6 floors is going to be enough.

Minor correction by OP: When I specified Floor Plan 3D FP3D I really used to say TurboFloorplan 3D Home And Landscape Pro version 16 TFP3D. If you Google it youll soon stumbled upon a website selling it for I acquired it for. FWIW, it usually applies about 40, while using latest version, TFP3D 2015, selling approximately 90. Yes, I found the instructions, but unless I had you set up just right inside the 3D view I could not simply select the cutout to help it become work. this is simply a few on the annoying features.

My review is good for FP 3D v. 11, the sole CAD Ive ever tried.

I have owned five in the previous versions of TurboFloorPlan and located them totally appropriate for each other. Drawings were easily transferred from program to program. Version 17 can be a completely new and different program software. Moving files from previous versions to version 17 is usually a gamble at best. Opening them directly is just not possible. Files ought to be exported as dxf files AutoCAD type files after which imported into version 17. The results will not be always guaranteed. I am a vintage user of IMSI FloorPlan 3D 11. After dealing with process of developing a home using a builder, were shopping around pool companies. Wanted a landscape design program to test placement and views in 3D, etc. Purchased Chief Architect Home Designer Suite 2015 after much research, but somehow omitted looking in to the IMSI line again. I heard they switched CAD engines a few times along with the last was the Punch engine. The Home Designer Suite does NOT export to 3D - you'll be able to only export 2D DXF. I do not like to become locked in just a product, so that became a waste of 99. It was also hard to actually design a pool and patio. The next higher priced version Home Designer Architectural could do patios. Even though the Suite actually does pools, it only puts them inside the ground.
FloorPlan 3D 16 is often a breeze to make use of. Uses familiar methods just like the version 11 to include objects and walls, except the relevant skills are much improved. It would be the Pro version, therefore it pretty much does everything. Putting in slabs for decks, for example AND putting pools from the slabs - the same as real life. I come with an IMSI program that Ive been using more than 15 years Floorplans Plus 3D and although limited with the technology of the day, it may be very easy and intuitive make use of. However, I thought I might upgrade since that program will will no longer be loadable in Win 7.
However, although far superior using what it can do, this softwares layout is incredible. Simple tasks that might be accomplished with a couple of clicks are actually hidden in sub-menus or are 3 to 4 clicks away. Even basic functions ask you to right-click to end rather than just simply dragging and letting go from the mouse button. Previously right clicking gave selections for rotating/flipping, scaling, text, adjusting lines etc - however right click finishes, deletes as well as a couple of other minor functions and thats concerning this etc.
Basic settings including scaling, infilling areas, editing wall and door sizes, metric/imperial preferences, and wall dimensioning are difficult to find and/or do. For example, I cant for your life of me learn how to set the lining dimensioning to interior dimensions only - it always measures in the middle from the wall??? Whats achievable - who would like to know the dimension through the center of your wall into a center in case a wall?
