For fun, go on a paper or digitized paper topo of Panamint City Surprise Canyon, Inyo County, CA, the Ballarat quad and look at the amount of detail on that map - - the many mines, roads, springs, and so on. But really, Garmins maps are only plain pathetic compared towards the real thing. I got a new GPSMAP 60Csx as well as the western US topo 24K maps to make use of for hikes around northern California. I specifically bought the 24K map version given it has routable trails. The problem is the map is missing a LOT of trails. For example, in Mt Tam, Steep Ravine will not be included. Around Santa Cruz, all from the trails define the Skyline for the Sea trail are missing. These are major, heavily used trails and achieving incomplete trail information really limits the functionality with the maps and also the GPS unit for hikers. I have heard that this 100K version includes many of these trails albeit with less contour information. Im really pissed at Garmin and will probably be returning these maps.

But it did appear to eliminate some on the contour clutter. Oddly enough, my CNNANT 2013.10 had that trail upon it anyway.
So I just might route using 2009 24k, OR CNNANT then change up to 2008 topo to declutter the 24k OR populate the CNNANT the screen somewhat.

We bought the topos for the recent day at Colorado, having used the Garmin maps in Scotland a year ago. Its very easy to use just slip the microSD to the back in the unit, although chips are certainly not labeled, so that it can get confusing in case you have multiple chips. We tried on the extender for hiking and tracking our progress in the Rocky Mountain National Park and Indian Peaks Wilderness Area. The software is not difficult to use. Not all geological features are labeled some smaller peaks are not named, but all bodies of water are and yes it works well for estimating distances.

Ive a couple of Garmin GPS units before my current Oregon 450t. On my last one, a GPSMAP60C, I had topo maps with less detail. Almost everyone during my offroad group includes a GPS unit, also it was very apparent that mine wasnt nearly as good. They saw a lot more than I did, and were more accurate. So, on this occasion, I bought the upgraded maps. Now, when Im out inside wild, I know where it is all totally. The volume of detail is amazing. Im never returning to college!

Great service from Amazon, I received this product fast and everything mainly because it should be. I have worn the extender twice for backpacking into Lakes within the Uinta Wilderness Mountains. Some on the more remote and smaller lakes don't have any actual trails into them. My complaint will be the coverage area. Most of what I do is inside Northern Utah Southern Idaho, Southwest Montana and Western Wyoming area. The Mountain West The mountain ranges and vacation areas type of tie together in that area. Dont know about Garmins map team, but I have noticed that almost all mountains and trails dont stop by state lines. So if I am hiking or snowmobiling in Northern Utah and I cross into Idaho pretty normal Well Garmin does not have those together, rather they put Utah with Colorado along with the main mountains and vacation parts of Colorado are time from mountains in Utah. I have to get two different SD cards. Not at all useful to possess Utah and Colorado tied together!!!!! Hey Have you viewed a US map lately? You will notice that Denver along with the surrounding mountains are more within the Central US than within the Mountain West. Makes the GPS unit I purchased very hard to work with and it truly is nothing but ways to force that you buy more maps from Garmin. If they cared about customers, they will do their TOPO maps dependant on adjacent mountains, not state lines! Hello, Garmin, Anybody Home?
