Dr. Angelou represents the perfect of African genius and culture. Her words are our words, and her poems can be like wings of freedom once we struggle in exile.

Maya Angelous words absolutely captivate me through the entire series. Each poem opens a different door but reliterate the themes of oppression, struggle, freedom, a whole bunch more. Two particular favorite short poems are The Lesson and Contemporary Announcement.
Maya Angelous continuous effort to live on life through music, through dance, through writing reflects in The Lesson. Even though the poem seems rather morbid over the description of rotting flesh and worms old tombs, veins collapse, within the end it emphasizes value of living life and enjoying life prior to the last breath. So the lesson being learned from The Lesson should be to love life and enjoy life.
Maya Angelous past reflects in the majority of of her poems. In Contemporary Announcement, she portrayed the seriousness of living from day to day inside the ghettos. The protagonist lives every day, from paycheck to paycheck, in their sadness and happiness. When the character has money, your family join together in happiness with cook the cow and ring the fundamental bells. And when there isn't a money, the family unit must are in darkness as well as in fear, that they must hold your breath and take my heart within your hand. Overall, the poem portrays the harshness with the working class which experienced 80% of Americans.

This became a wonderful book, in which every one of the poems often tell an article, that nearly everyone is through in the past in their life. Maya Angelou has written what is actually on her mind, clearly, and easily creating a portrait of her past. Though many in the poems are locked up in the experience of being black, I would recommend this book to anyone.

Maya Angelou has become one of my greatest inspirations since seventh grade. I am now a rising senior in high school graduation and I aspire to get a poet and writer. She is, by far and away, one from the most influential, strongest, and inspiring Black woman within the works of literature. Many of her poems I take mention of the when doing an English assignment because she begins of many issues facing our people, especially women of even all colors. I aspire to meet her someday but until that someday comes I continue to be considered a big fan of hers and allow her to words echo through my head and felt within my heart.
