Yes XP is just not perfect but hardly slow when compared to the bloated and rushed VISTA. If you perform clean install with XP and also your computer is slow it is your hardware or maybe you have the wrong drivers installed. This isn't XPs fault.

You can get a whole new one for a couple of hundred of course, if you need a great computer for tech then you can certainly build your own a couple of hundred also. Im sure you will find techs in your neighborhood that can help you. Either way the rule of thumb is XP for old computers, and 7 for first time ones. And if you will cant stand XP a celebrity then change to linux. Its free and far more secure.

no choice but to convert to xp from ME. XP home works all right and all my old software is effective on it. No support for ME which worked well for me for several years. Time to progress to XP to maintain software current.
XP probably will go down as Microsofts best computer ever. After service pack 2 and 3, they finally started using it working! Why reinvent the wheel? Im happy and hang up for at least 2-3 years due to a 50 upgrade pkg purchased off ebay
