Yes XP isn't perfect but hardly slow than the bloated and rushed VISTA. If you start a clean install with XP plus your computer remains slow it's your hardware otherwise you have the wrong drivers installed. This just isn't XPs fault.
The second step is to buy a brand new computer with 7. You can get a whole new one for several hundred and when you need a great computer for tech you'll be able to build your own a couple of hundred also. Im sure you'll find techs where you live that may help you. Either way the rule of thumb is XP for old computers, and 7 for first time ones. And if you cant stand XP a celebrity then change to linux. Its free and far more secure.
