From Microsoft: Windows XP Home Edition provides the freedom to discover more than you ever thought possible with the computer plus the Internet. This is the os home users have already been waiting for because doing so offers serious speed and high stability, so that you can have serious fun.
Create, share, and have movies
Communicate any moment, anywhere
Discover, download, store, and play music
It remains to be usable today, and it may be equally secure to be a newer OS when it is configured properly.
It is often a fun operating-system.
Nothing which can be thought of.
Thank you Jesus Christ! This os has been beside me a short while yet it is very enjoyable. Throughout my brief years on your computer as a different user it is really impressive. Just my own prefer. Even the preview of Microsoft Windows 8 doesn't compare to Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 2.
So far Windows XP is certainly the slowest OS Ive ever caused. Not definitely worth the buy whatsoever.
Windows XP will not be a good OS, given it keeps crashing for no reason at all and its so slow, even though you have 1-2GB of memory. If you've got XP, I recommend which you upgrade to Vista SP1 or 7 now.
Reply by whatsyourpoint on June 18, 2012
Yikes! Whatever you choose to do, dont use Vista period! 7 is a useful one though.
Reply by spacetimezi on February 6, 2012
Yes XP just isn't perfect but hardly slow when compared to the bloated and rushed VISTA. If you execute a clean install with XP and also your computer continues to be slow it's your hardware or perhaps you have the wrong drivers installed. This is just not XPs fault.
The next thing is to buy a brand new computer with 7. You can get a different one for several hundred of course, if you need a great computer for tech then you can certainly build your own for a couple of hundred also. Im sure you will find techs locally that will help you. Either way the rule of thumb is XP for old computers, and 7 for brand new ones. And if you will cant stand XP a celebrity then switch the signal from linux. Its free and a lot more secure.
Very, really good Windows program
Easy to face problems, very easy to navigate. Holds more than enough. Tells when there is really a problem and fixes it easily. Fast 85% times. Good household computer, tells each time a program may harm your pc, and asks if you need to run it.
Lags sometimes ANNOYING, may be slow 35% times. When multiple tabs windows are running while doing so, the many programs immediately become unresponsive. When programs become unresponsive, hassle to shut this software down.
Overall, I have had this computer ALL MY LIFE, and yes it still works like completely new. This computer can be an old but trusted friend, in case you desire to pick out a fresh program, go along with this. You wont regret it!:
when your Microsoft ME os wont work anymore, purchase a upgrade package off ebay that converts your o/s to XP home. Yes, it functions OK and allows someone to keep your current computer some more years. as Microsoft will support XP thru 2013
no choice but to convert to xp from ME. XP home works all right and all my old software is very rewarding on it. No support for ME which worked well for me for decade. Time to progress up to XP to help keep software current.
XP will most likely go down as Microsofts best operating-system ever. After service pack 2 and 3, they finally first got it working! Why reinvent the wheel? Im happy as well as set for at least a few years due to a 50 upgrade pkg purchased off ebay

After a lot of my grumbling about Microsoft Windows os's, the hand of fate intervened and my laptops disk drive and motherboard simultaneously failed, giving me the right excuse to search out and buy a different Apple iMac, a device that can run Mac OS X 10.6.6 and Windows alongside one another, very beneficial to avoid wasting my investment in Windows software in the past. Not desperate to install Vista, I instead decide to purchase the Windows XP OEM Home Edition SP3 from Amazon for just a very reasonable price, which arrived within 48 hours with the usual Amazon efficiency.
Using the Mac OS X Boot Camp application to set up my new software, I was operational in Windows XP in under 30 minutes, connected wirelessly to my Netgear DG834G router without problems, to be able to switch forward and backward with Mac OS X as you desire using the Boot Camp system tray icon.
Even despite my first comment, I must say that version of Windows XP runs very well and much faster on my own new iMac and, combined with Apples fantastic Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard too, I feel totally liberated from reliance upon Microsoft the very first time in years.

Best version of Windows, Works fine with WiFi
I had a vintage Pentium III, 733Mhz PC with 256 MB RAM sat inside a cupboard, made a decision to try loading XP but didnt would like to spend a whole lot on the software. This OEM version can be a good price and loaded without issue, also registered with Microsoft with out a problem. Ok because it is OEM copy that you are unlikely to obtain technical support from Microsoft.
Windows XP during my opinion is in no way the best version of Windows, very very easy to install, stable and works on the reasonable quantity of system resources unlike Vista. XP Runs well in this little old PC, which can be now used to serf the internet.
A previous reviewer stated they problems getting XP in order to connect to the internet utilizing a wireless network; Ive had no issues connecting my old PC having a Netgear WG111T 108Mbps Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter key, worked immediately, setup so XP is managing the connection. I have two other newer PCs running XP Service Pack 2 and they're also connected wirelessly to the net using a BT Homehub, you have a built-in adapter one other with a D-Link USB key.
Buy Windows XP whilst you still can.

As a different MacBook user I still needed to own a couple of my Windows programs. The options were to fit XP or Vista then access that via Boot Camp or even a virtual programme including VM Ware Fusion or Parrallels. I thought we would use XP Home via Boot Camp and installed XP lat week.
The OS installed easily on the MacBook and it has run quite easily since. Dare I say it but XP Home appears to be running smoother around the Mac laptop or computer did on my own previous Windows laptop from Sony
I have installed the Windows programs that I need and havent found a better for in Mac OS, until now all programs are running nicely and XP is often a dream. There were a number of forum posts about XP versus Vista with the Mac, if you ask me I recommend XP Home the way it uses less system resources and runs A1.

If you just need to a copy of Windows XP without worrying about fancy plastic box and instructions then go with this copy. It just comes in the cardboard cover but as well as that it is comparable to the more expensive consumer version and loads up in precisely the same way. It also has all the modern upgrades included service pack 3. XP is useful now and is particularly suitable for less powerful PCs.

Running at merely under 110mb of RAM, speeding around as being a bolt of lightening on my small Mac, XP Home is amazingly by far the most efficient version of XP Ive ever used - more so as opposed to Professional and Media Centre editions. Using up just 2GB of HDD space too, this honestly puts Vista and Windows 7 to shame on the subject of using system resources. Setting it up via DOS is pretty straightforward though Im not a lover, though Ive used VM Fusion on my own Mac to utilize this to be a virtual machine, as well as its running fantastically. Because its Service Pack 3, their are few updates available after cellular phone, and in order to get straight to your business. Because of its low RAM count too, youll easily pull off hefty anti-virus software and have a smooth machine, though I personally do without as I used this XP purely for old games and small programs.
As this can be a OEM version, youll receive the disc and also a basic pamphlet in the simple brown box. Providing you know that this isn't an upgrade edition, and youre comfortable installing completely from scratch, this is certainly quite the bargain. Windows 7 could possibly be selling to get a similar price, but at the least with XP I know that my old games, programs and USB devices work, whilst it barely makes my MacBook sweat. Unless its placed in my

Exactly as being the last reviewer, I have several Windows programmes I necessary to my iMac.
With Leopard and Bootcamp it had been as easy as eating frozen treats. I had partitioned the drive and fully installed windows XP in 45 minutes. I used the guide in David Pogues Mac OS X Leopard The Missing Manual, yet , the whole thing was pretty easy.
As a frustrated Vista user, that it was great to determine the tried and trusted XP screen appear not as good because OS X screen, obviously. And it all works rather well.
This is really a great deal for both OS X users and much less powerful PC users. You dont pay money for gimmicks, the CD as well as the license. Great stuff.

Its been quite some time since Ive covered slipstreaming, or combining, a website pack into Windows link, though the release of Windows XP Service Pack with Advanced Security Technologies hereafter termed as SP2 warrants some discussion. Thats because XP SP2 can be a huge change through the original shipping version of XP, offering several new features and capabilities being a major new Windows version. For this reason, so many people are going to want to setup XP SP2 directly the next occasion they install Windows, and skip the time-consuming and potentially insecure step of installing the primary XP version first, then applying SP2 following the fact.
But what, exactly, is slipstreaming, you may well ask? Back when Microsoft was developing Windows 2000, the company thought we would create up an even more elegant method of integrating service packs and also other fixes back in to the core OS, making sure that enterprise customers could always maintain an install set of the modern version of Windows, prepared to be installed at at any time on new machines. In the NT days, this procedure was convoluted at best, and service pack installs often required users to reinstall components that have previously been installed. It just wasnt elegant, but Windows 2000 fixed everything, along with XP the slipstreaming process is essentially unchanged.
For customers, slipstreaming will also be useful. For example, you'll be able to copy set up . directory from a XP CD-ROM to the hard disk drive, slipstream the XP SP2 files into that installation directory, and than write it back with a recordable CD, offering you a bootable copy with the XP setup disk that has SP2 right out from the box as we say. Thats the procedure were likely to examine here. And slipstreaming isnt on a service packs, either: You can also slipstream in a number of product updates, including hot-fixes. Previous to the relieve SP2, I developed a bootable XP CD that included an original gold version of XP, Service Pack 1a, plus the Security Rollup 1 update, all meshed together to a single install. Now, Ive tossed that CD aside for one that also includes XP SP2 instead. Lets consider how I did this.
First, you have to find your Windows XP CD-ROM any bootable and/or retail version; including Full and Upgrade versions; XP Home or Pro gold release and copy the contents on the CD for your hard drive. Create a folder inside root of your respective C: drive called xp C:xp and employ My Computer to merely drag and drop the files relating to the two locations.
While this can be copying, receive the Full Network Install version of Windows XP Service Pack 2 272 MB, which you may download on the Microsoft Web site or copy on the Windows XP SP2 CD-ROM. The download version with this file is termed, as you move the CD version is termed However, are identical, save with the name. For this reason, I will refer to your simpler below, but it is possible to substitute for that when needed. You can also rename to if youd like. Now, create a brand new folder called sp2 within the C drive C:sp2 and after that copy this file to that particular location.
Now, you must extract the SP2 files. To do so, open a command line window by navigating to Start, after which Run, and typing cmd no quotes; then hit ENTER. Then, while using following commands, navigate to this folder and extract the files Note that the words ENTER means hit the ENTER key:
Your computer will manage to pause for just a bit, then an Extracting Files dialog will surface and display the progress.
When the extraction is conducted, this dialog will show up. Press OK to remain.
Now, type the following within the command line window where ENTER means hit the ENTER key:
After a brief pause, XP SP2 Setup will combine, or slipstream, the SP2 files in the XP install, as shown with this figure:
When its completed, youll see this dialog box. Click OK, then close the command line window. If you dont see this dialog, youve done something wrong. Ensure the command line entries youve used are correct.
Before we just burn the resulting file set with a CD, we ought to make sure there exists a hidden file found on your own XP CD-ROM which will make your brand-new CD bootable. We cant grab this file with My Computer, and definitely will instead utilize a shareware tool called ISOBuster, which you may find for the Smart Projects Web site. The latest version at the time of the writing is 1.6.
After you download and install ISOBuster, choose make use of only the products free functionality, if you do not decide to purchase it, which wouldnt become a bad idea. The ISOBuster UI will resemble this assuming youve left your XP CD inside CD-ROM drive:
On the left-side tree view, make sure you've selected the node named Bootable CD. You should view a file called Microsoft or similar; it is going to be named inside the right side of ISOBuster. This would be the file you have to extract. To do so, right-click and select Extract Microsoft When ISOBuster prompts you, decide to download it on the root of the C: drive. Now you are able to close ISOBuster.
Start My Computer and make up a note from the name within your Windows XP CD my CD happens to get named WXPVOLEN because its a volume licensed version of XP Pro, but yours might be different. Then, eject the XP CD make a burnable CD CD-R or CD-RW as part of your CD burner, and dismiss any autorun dialog boxes XP might display.
Now, youre wanting to burn your brand-new, bootable Windows XP SP2 CD. How you do this will likely depend within the CD writing software you have. In this section, Ill examine Nero Burning ROM 6 and versions 5 and 6 of Roxio Easy CD/Media Creator. Please note, however, that the newest version of Easy Media Creator, version 7, will not likely work. Im looking at workarounds. If youre interested inside my advice, Nero would be the way to look.
First, start Nero Burning ROM and judge CD-ROM Boot on the New Compilations Boot page. Then, under Source of boot image data, choose Image file and select C:Microsoft by clicking the Browse button. Then, simply select the option titled Enable expert settings for advanced users only and change Kind of emulation to No Emulation, and change Number of loaded sectors to 4. The Load segment of sectors option should stay at its default valuation on 07C0. When this step is fully gone, the Nero Burning ROM application should resemble the next:
Now, choose the Label page in Nero Burning ROM. Under Volume label, ISO 9660 get into the name of the CD WXPVOLEN within my case. When completed, this site of the dialog should resemble these:
Now, select the New button. The New Compilation dialog disappears and also the main window of Nero Burning ROM can be obtained, as shown here.
On the best side with the application, within the File Browser area, navigate to C:xp. Then, select all from the files in that directory and copy them over for the new CD, as shown here:
Now youre willing to burn the CD. Click the Burn icon from the toolbar, or choose Recorder and after that Burn Compilation, and click the Burn button. Nero will cache the files then write those to disc, as shown here:
Start Easy CD Creator and select File, then New Project, and Bootable CD. This will launch the Choose Type of Bootable CD dialog, shown below. In this dialog, select No Emulation for Bootable CD Type, 0x7c0 since the Load Segment this can be a default choice, and 4 with the Sector Count. Then, select the Browse button to get the Microsoft file and employ this because the bootable image. Click OK to shut the dialog.
When the dialog closes, youre returned on the main Easy CD Creator window, which now shows two files, and, within the root with the CD project youre making. Select File then CD Project Properties to file for the CD Project Properties dialog. There are three tabs in this particular dialog, and they also should be configured to resemble the next three shots.
A handful of notes here: The Volume Label should match the name within your original XP CD-ROM. In the figure above, its named WXPFPPEN, which can be the name with the retail Windows XP Professional US CD-ROM, but yours may be different. Make sure your choices in each tab on your own system match the alternatives as shown in figures above, then click OK to seal the dialog.
Now, drag and drop all in the files from C:xp for the CD project. You can accomplish this from within the Easy CD Creator interface, or perhaps you can open a My Computer window and drag them over beyond this concept if youd like. When youre done, the Easy CD Creator window should resemble the next.
Now, click on the red Record button to get started on burning the CD. The Record CD Setup dialog appears. Click Start Recording to start. While your CD is produced, the Record CD Progress dialog will show up, as shown below. When its done, click OK to shut the dialog.
Start Creator Classic and select File, then New Project, after which Bootable CD. This will launch the Choose Type of Bootable CD dialog. Click the Advanced button and also the dialog will resemble the figure shown below. In this dialog, select No Emulation for Bootable Disc Type, 0x7c0 as being the Load Segment this can be the default choice, and 4 with the Sector Count. Then, select the Browse button to seek out the Microsoft file and make use of this because bootable image. Click OK to seal the dialog.
When the dialog closes, youre returned for the main Creator Classic window, which now shows two files, and Microsoft, inside root on the CD project youre making. Rename Microsoft to.
Now, select File then CD Project Properties to produce the CD Project Properties dialog. There are three tabs on this dialog, plus they should be configured to resemble these three shots.
A handful of notes here: The Volume Label within the first tab should match the name of one's original XP CD-ROM. In the figure above, its named WXPFPPEN, and that is the name in the retail Windows XP Professional US CD-ROM, but yours could possibly be different. Make sure your choices in each tab with your system match the choices as shown in figures above, then click OK to shut the dialog.
Now, drag and drop all on the files from C:xp on the CD project. You can do that from within the Creator Classic interface, or maybe you can open a My Computer window and drag them over beyond this concept if youd like. During the copy process, you are going to receive approximately three error dialogs noting that you directory names including will must be renamed to get compatible using the naming conventions of your respective disc file system. The first time you observe this dialog, just click Change All to dismiss it.
Once youre done copying the files, the Creator Classic window will resemble the next.
Now, go through the orange Record button to start out burning the CD. The Record Setup dialog appears. Click OK to begin with recording the CD. While your CD is established, the Burn Disc Progress dialog will show up, as shown below. When its done, click OK to seal the dialog.
Once the CD is done, it is best to test it on the non-critical system or in the virtual machine for example those utilized by Microsoft Virtual PC and VMWare Workstation. Depending about the environment you decide on, the CD should either boot automatically, or perhaps you will visit a note asking someone to press any critical for install. Use the CD to setup Windows XP with SP2 to be sure its working correctly. Most important, perhaps, ensure which the version of XP youve installed is SP2. To do so, head over to Start, then Run, and type winver no quotes thus hitting ENTER. The SP2 version number is 5.1 Build sp2rtm.040803-2158: Service Pack 2.
When youre done testing, you need to consider copying the newly created CD, and deleting the cruft youve added for a hard drive, specifically C:Microsoft, and also the directories C:xp and C:sp2.
One thing to feature - youll should be logged together with certain admin privileges to perform update - s:c:xp - else the update command silently failsdoes nothing.
Having a challenge. Im while using AMD64 version of XP/Pro so Ive followed your instructions except used the amd64 directory rather then i386. I also am running XP being a virtual machine using a Linux system and I cant find my old Nero factor to create a brand new image file.
Instead Ive experimented with burn the newest image using k3b on Linux. The instructions work about the identical way even so the CD boot cant find NTLDR.
I do realize that I can see the boot folder about the new disc, but not for the original disc that I copied the older XP files from.
Do you've got any tips on what is going wrong? The boot is nearly working ever since the disc may be known as bootable also it does seem to obtain as far as identifying it needs NTLDR.
OK. Found a Windows program called nlite that burns the picture properly. nlite also allows one to add additional drivers for a Windows install disc.

Its been quite some time since the last What I Use, but there havent been many major changes since late this past year: Surface Pro 3 happens to be my go-to travel companion, Ive added another cellphone line for testing Windows Phone, Android and iPhone side-by-side, and possess rotated through newer and more effective tablets along with devices. Weve also switched from FIOS to Comcast and added in our set-top box More
