Yes XP isn't perfect but hardly slow in comparison to the bloated and rushed VISTA. If you carry out a clean install with XP and also your computer remains slow then it's your hardware otherwise you have the wrong drivers installed. This isn't XPs fault.
The alternative is to buy a fresh computer with 7. You can get a brand new one a couple of hundred and when you need a great computer for tech you may build your own for a couple hundred at the same time. Best version of Windows, Works fine with WiFi
I had a vintage Pentium III, 733Mhz PC with 256 MB RAM sat in a very cupboard, made a decision to try loading XP but didnt would like to spend lots on the software. This OEM version is often a good price and loaded without issue, also registered with Microsoft without problems. Ok as it's OEM copy you might be unlikely to obtain technical support from Microsoft.
Windows XP in my opinion is in no way the best version of Windows, very all to easy to install, stable and relies on a reasonable level of system resources unlike Vista. XP Runs well on my small old PC, that's now used to serf the internet.
A previous reviewer stated that they had problems getting XP in order to connect to the internet employing a wireless network; Ive had no issues connecting my old PC utilizing a Netgear WG111T 108Mbps Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter key, worked without delay, setup so XP is managing the connection. I have two other newer PCs running XP Service Pack 2 plus they are also connected wirelessly to the internet having a BT Homehub, you've a built-in adapter the opposite with a D-Link USB key.

Bought this cos a new laptop I have came pre-loaded with Vista. Removed Vista and installed this. Perfect. Join the anti-Vista campaignits all overhead and hype. slows you machine down and does not much that good old XP doesnt. and purchase XP!!!

If you only need a copy of Windows XP minus the fancy plastic box and instructions then go because of this copy. It just comes in a very cardboard cover but after that it is similar to the more expensive consumer version and loads up from the same way. The download doesn't exist. Microoft wont allow you to get a good copy of windows, they only help you get what they desire. Vista sucks, and 7 aint greater.
I have no idea what the hell is wrong with cnet but this ought to be removed.
I ran 7 for several of months and located too many things missing that XP has and didnt such as the features it had, the majority are useless.
MS says media center dont assist XP, you've to install win 7, but Windows XP media center edition has media center exactly why cant I get a duplicate of media center for my copy of XP pro?? STUPID MS

The media center program won't work with XP, which can be why they released Windows XP Media Center will need to have that special edition to utilize media center with

CNET Sucks for misleading us to trust we can download WMC for XP, I give CNET one star because I cannot provide them with ZERO stars.
Their can also be media center softwares that include the standard video file formats, unlike WMC, which only generates WTV files, then should be converted to view by most ALL TVs
None - the download now takes someone to Microsoft Window 7 buy it now from Microsoft.

This review was very helpful as it has, eventually, shown me that Microsoft dont worry about being fair! Tv programs that worked fine when first create on XP media version now dont work; and they desire to charge for upgrading to windows I can purchase a full blown flat screen TV for half the cost!!

Sorry, just saw your reply. Your sarcasm is noted. When I wrote the review, I was frustrated that I couldnt just download Media Center alone. I was also annoyed by MS excluding XP support from the products for that sole reason for pushing individuals the new OS. However, its unimportant. This review was almost two years ago, and individuals should definitely be looking for something more important by now, even when its not Windows. Windows 7 is fantastic, but people should opt for Ubuntu in the event the upgrade is cost-prohibitive; desktop Linux has come a long ways, as well as the upgrades are free of charge.
Also, I know it seems silly should be expected that links to XP Media Center Edition denote XP Media Center Edition and not something else entirely. Maybe its CNETs problem, plus they just should take down this faulty download listing.

Now which is amazing - I can not believe Microsoft would hold the gall to link for their new, updated product after their previous version depending on an computer that is over several years old is past its life. And they also need to charge money for this. Completely unbelievable. Thank you for ones excellent review and sage words.
