Yes it really is! See this writing from Peter Saddow:
First, for those who have User Access Control arrived, UAC will generate the following prompt to ensure youre okay with SQL Server making changes for a computer:
If you are not okay using this, obviously, click No, and begin your day as usual. Otherwise, click Yes.
Remember you need to leave the SQL Server Installation Center running while setup continues. This means you can have two setup icons as part of your taskbar; in past times, Ive attempt to de-clutter my desktop during setup, only to get out that this Installation Center ought to be running if not your temporary files will disappear. I were unsatisfied with this issue here, nevertheless it will not be addressed with this release:
Next, you'll get a warning during setup many times; once after you launch, once after you select New SQL Server stand-alone, and perchance through other paths likewise that only SQL Server 2008 SP1 is supported in your operating system:
In earlier times, this dialog has stopped many men and women in their tracks, while they thought there seemed to be a significant issue and/or that setup may not allow them continue. Rest assured, you may safely ignore this warning, make absolutely certain to install SP1 prior to deciding to do anything else. While you might already be seeing it through Microsoft Update, it is possible to download SP1 manually here:
Please ensure you download the proper language to your operating systemSQL Server instance. I have seen several customer complain how they ran the SP1 installer, but it really could not find any components to update, as the language would not match. The fact that setup couldnt offer a more helpful error message can be another issue.
If you're ambitious, you might avoid this warning by slipstreaming your install with SP1 and optionally, post-SP1 cumulative updates. Peter also offers some great blog articles and FAQs for this process:
Whether you slipstream you aren't, once setup extends to the point where it's going to launch the Setup Support Rules screen, you could possibly see this error:
This is because of a Windows 7 improvement in UI dialogs are closed, and you will be addressed in both a future 2008 CU plus in 2008 R2 see Peters addendum about this concern here. In the meantime, I have found that this problem disappears altogether if I reboot as John Paul Cook brought up earlier, although not if I simply de-activate setup and begin over. This likely affects SQL Server 2005 setup too, simply because they share a similar installation framework; however, if that's the case, I doubt it will likely be fixed.
John also explains that after you setup SQL Server 2008 initially, rule out Books Online, being a more approximately date version can be acquired here:
Finally, watch this Knowledge Base article, as it's being updated for your final turmoil both Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 :
A side note: would you blue screen Windows 7?
Yes it is possible to! I did this today, using only the SQL Server 2008 installer and Task Manager. Here is how I did this, in a very VMWare Fusion virtual machine:
I launched setup, but happened to be the Invoke or error from above.
I quit setup as well as an instance of SSMS I had open and rebooted.
The Setup Support Rules screen seemed hung, so I opened Task Manager and was surprised to locate an demonstration of SSMS there.
Being impatient, I highlighted and clicked Kill Process.
The dialog I got insinuated that I would lose data. Since I knew I had not opened an illustration showing SSMS, I shrugged and killed this process anyway.
I was immediately given a BSOD, and VMWare quickly recovered by restarting the VM.
This actually hosed my Windows 7 Virtual Machine so that I were forced to delete it from the inside VMWare Fusion. I would try and start it, plus it sat there frozen. So I deleted it and am rebuilding a Windows Server 2008 R2 VM as I post this it had been released on MSDN/TechNet, as well as perhaps Connect too, earlier today. I should discover how to create snapshots before installing software, but quite honestly it is by far the worst outcome Ive been able to with a SQL Server install, and also the VM became a brand new throw-away anyhow.
Many of a similar elements sign up for SQL Server 2008 R2. A few additional notes, which are mentioned before but they are worth mentioning again:
You cannot revert to 2008 tools after you install 2008 R2. You can uninstall the 2008 R2 instance, however the client tools will never revert time for the previous version. If you curently have SQL Server 2008 client tools installed, you'll see this warning within the Installation Rules screen in SQL Server 2008 R2 setup:
You cannot upgrade any existing instance 2008 or otherwise not to R2, because only Enterprise Evaluation currently is being offered, and there is no upgrade path. So, if you have already got SQL Server installed, you simply must install a separate instance so as to play. Probably the safest route for the present time, but as I tried to do an upgrade, I figured a number of you might try it too.
Hope this information is useful.

I deterred the firewall then runned the again. Then it worked!
Thor, yes, firewall configuration could be a obstacle. During setup you might be warned about firewall issues, but setup helps you to continue. You can examine this page to ascertain how to configure it correctly turning them back kind of defeats the aim, even though only temporarily, and infrequently people will forget to show it back on.

When trying to setup SQL Server 2008 on Windows 7, during installation progress this could be stoped for an extended time.
It are at almost 80% of full installation and it really is blocked from the function SqlEngineDBStartConfigActioninstallconfigrcCpu32.
Is video known issue, how can I solve it?
When you say: Rest assured, you may safely ignore this warning, just be certain to install SP1 prior to do anything else.
Are you saying leave the dialog open and install SP1 or Press Run Program, do the installation, then install SP1?
Carlos, you cant install SP1 before you decide to install the camp product. What I meant was, finish the install, then before doing anything ELSE, install SP1.
Excellent, Thanks. I had feelings, however wanted to become 100% sure. Thanks with the fast reply.
So there is usually a question For me to Ask, Which One of such Link I Have to Download???? The THIRD one???
and to start with install Sql then visual studio 2008?????
Personally, I would install SQL Server after which Visual Studio. When installing Visual Studio, be sure to not install the Express Edition of SQL Server that may be part in the install. If you currently have an illustration showing SQL Server locally I assume Developer Edition plus there is little reason to incorporate an additional Express instance. You can do things the other way around in case you want, but I recall the 2005 versions experienced a real overuse injury in that case, and I rebuilt one machine for doing it and been aware of several other similar stories. Im not certain I trust most of these issues to get fixed from the 2008 editions.

Second, either alter your computer name so that it doesnt have an undesirable character - or get accustomed to putting square brackets around it each and every time you use it. From two other computers, one running Windows 7 Pro along with the other running Windows XP Pro, I aimed to connect towards the Sqlserver instance by using an MS Access 2010 project. that is naveed from india.
Naveed it sounds that you installed the beds base version of SQL Express, which doesnt include Management Studio. And why are you installing 2008 today anyway and why the x86 version? I strongly suggest using a more contemporary version that has a longer support lifetime. At the very least, even in case you need to use a 2008 engine i really enjoy seeing, you have to be using Management Studio 2012 SP1, which cost nothing and fully functional without any with the limitations that existed in the past versions of SSMS Express.
