Its been a lengthy year. On May 4, 2004, Microsoft group second in command Jim Allchin provided a keynote address in the Windows Hardware Engineering Conference WinHEC 2004 see my show report, through which he demonstrated Longhorn builds 4067 and 4069 and discussed such Longhorn features as Avalon, Indigo, and Aero. The company then provided build 4074 to demonstrate goers, and also to MSDN subscribers. It seemed like Longhorn was finally on target.
Not quite. Unbeknownst to prospects outside of Microsoft, Longhorn was ready to take a significant detour. The 4000-series builds that Microsoft had just shown off and passed out had already run their course and were destined to the technological dustbin. The problem, I was told recently, was which the underpinnings of Longhorn-then based around the Windows XP code base-were struggling within the weight out of all the technologies that Microsoft planed to implement in this particular release.
Ill offer an exclusive write-up with what happened next sometime in June 2005, for now lets just declare that Longhorns architects went back on the drawing board. The 4000-series builds were scrapped, plus the company started building Longhorn again yourself, while using Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 SP1, see my preview code base because it did for that x64 version of Windows XP see my preview. The idea is the fact Longhorn must be better componentized right away, so the company could offer more discrete versions in the product to customers and even more easily add-about the many disparate technologies it turned out developing. These versions of Longhorn are identified by their 5000-series build numbers.
Late a few weeks ago, Microsoft finally issued its first public build of Longhorn, build 5048. Also known cryptically as being the Longhorn Developer Preview, Longhorn build 5048 was created on April 1, 2005 and will not reflect some with the advancements Microsoft recently made. That was by design: Longhorn build 5048 is made largely for device driver writers and, therefore, will not include many with the user interface niceties were expect from Longhorn. Furthermore, this task represents a usability back-step from last years build 4074. Thats because some features, such as the Sidebar as well as the new system-wide Contacts utility, are missing for action in 5048. There are factors behind these omissions. In any event, after you present Setup having a disk it can use, settle-back and wait, because Longhorn build 5048 takes above an hour to setup. Microsoft still insists it's going to get clean installs of Longhorn below fifteen minutes, nonetheless its hard to imagine during this period.
Once Longhorn build 5048 is finished installing, you boot directly from the desktop on the Administrator account Figure, which is somewhat disconcerting. And if you are attempting to do the right thing, security-wise, and give a password for the Administrator account and create your own user account, build 5048 actually complains which it cant log your self on: The auto-logon is hard-coded in some manner. Nice work, guys.

Уважаемый, не нужно говорить глупости - разве можно что либо делать в этих ОС?
4094 - это последняя сборка до так называемого Reset-Перезагрузки проекта, когда решили использовать ядро Сервера 2003, собственно говоря это и есть Vista.
На Virtual PC встанет? А то эта проблема была с Windows Whistler 2419.
