It is much more difficult to fake an MD5 hash with files as big for an iso rainbow tables definitely will be useless for data that big but I don t learn how the common prefix stuff works exactly, and it appears to be unlikely anyone would bother to fake the MD5 when the majority of people won t examine the hash whatsoever, but when it s in the same way easy to use a much better algorithm then you certainly might also.
Leo Davidson: Yeah very valid point, however I think for file hashing, MD5 is really a pretty good compromise between ubiquity and uniqueness.
Why not merely call it Windows ISO Identifier to restore more or less future-proof Windows 8, Windows Server, etc. Couple it that has a simple database and allow it roll. And as already suggested, a some type of page will be nifty at the same time, only to browse the hashes some might still find it useful I guess.

Andre I completely agree! I would certainly use such utility quite regularly. I end up finding that I can t recognize what image this is and yes it becomes a good hassle. It can be so easy to do also. If you were to pursue achieving this, I could be more than happy to help while using database.
If it s just a matter of adding hashes, you may at the same time support other windows disc. At least XP and Vista considering they are still used.
An MD5 will probably be good enough for that time being, just like someone is able to fake one over a file that size, you might have bigger problems with all the file you've got leaked.

I m not to imply there s a definite/serious threat of anyone bothering to fake the MD5 hash of any leaked Windows ISO; just wondering that which you meant.
Alex: I guess it s for leaked intermediate builds which aren t on MSDN/Technet, and also to make the check a lttle bit easier as being a bonus. So maybe this tool will probably be more ideal for Windows 8 since Windows 7 is getting ready to RTM.
Presumably the theory is that a hash of these builds is offered by some trusted person, at least someone you d trust greater file with a random download site.
Personally, I d still avoid installing leaked builds on far from a test VM, but maybe I m more paranoid than other individuals. Well, that will who knows what exactly is broken or experimental in a very leaked build that didn t proceed through any public release QA. Same as I d never manage a nightly web-browser build, really.

Just an FYI, I use an expedient app called HashTab which adds a tab for the properties dialog in windows explorer, which does every one of the hash checks including MD5. It does not employ a handy built in report on Win7 iso crc s though.

James Cage, chances are you'll have received this from the trusted source. But that trusted source might are already smart enough never to give away the iso as MS could most likely track the master. I tend not to doubt the contents of what we got are legit, but they also may have already been repackaged into an iso.

I also can verify the x86 English Win7 RTM ISO is just not correctly identified. I have hashed it from the RTM hashes and it also verifies CRC32, MD5, and SHA1, nevertheless the tool will not recognize it to be a valid ISO.

Unless I have seen the specific checksums around the microsoft site, they may be anything!!!! There seems tobe an awful lot of variations of checksums kicking about, and ive nto seen any with a 100% trustowrthy source.

Microsoft s download manager applet with the RC had an MD5 checksum constructed into it, according to your source it didn t either display it or notify you when it was valid, it would fail a negative download from microsoft whether it didnt match. I doubt that a great many people received a poor download from Р±Soft however it is possible. the original source then said the MD5 was. later I read somewhere else exactly what the MD5 checksum was expected to be to the ISO.
yes, you buy them the MD5, plus the ISO at a source, whether that source is completely from Р±Soft or another person. Then you calculate, generate, or produce in certain manner the MD5 from the file you have on your hard drive using any MD5 calculator. I ll post the link to the most popular one here. it might calc two at a time, if you wish you are able to paste the Published MD5 from the textbox just as soon as you browse and select the ISO file it tells you whether or not this matches. If you need to do NOT paste an MD5 into your textbox and after that browse and select the ISO file, it really tells you just what the MD5 is from the file. NOTE: this tends to do TWO MD5 files at the same time.
