Ob es zu Testzwecken, zum Zeitvertreib oder zum in-Nostalgie-schwelgen ist: Um Windows 95 auszuprobieren, bietet es sich an, das Betriebssystem in eine Virtuelle Maschine zu installieren. Da ich dazu keine vollstР“ndige Anleitung im Internet fand, habe ich mich nach РІnach dem das ganze schlieР“lich geklappt hatte РІdazu entschlossen, selber eine zu schreiben. BenР“tigt wird folgendes:
Virtualbox kostenlos, im Tutorial wird Version 3.0.2 verwendet
Von der Bootdiskette gibt es zwei Versionen, die Original-Version ist fР“r die allererste und die A-Version von Windows 95 gedacht, die B-Version der Diskette fР“r die B- und C-Version von 95.
Die Version seiner eigenen Windows-CD kann man leicht identifizieren: Die CDs der Versionen B und C ziert ein Hinweis РІMit USB-UnterstР“tzungРІ, die CDs der anderen beiden Versionen nicht.
Wen man alle benР“tigten Dinge beisammen hat, kann es losgehen:
Da die Dateien von alle in gepackt sind, mР“ssen wir das eigentliche Image erst daraus extrahieren.
Als nР“chstes erstellen wir in Virtualbox die virtuelle Maschine.
Als Betriebsystem natР“rlich Windows 95 wР“hlen.
Alles weitere mit einem Klick auf Weiter bestР“tigen. 64 MB Ram sind schon genug und mehr als 2GB Speicherplatz wird man kaum benР“tigen.
Nach dem der Assistent fertig ist, auf РІР“ndernРІklicken
Als Audio-Controller eine SoundBlaster 16 Soundkarte und als Netzwerkadapter РІPCnet-PCI IIРІauswР“hlen.
Unter System-Beschleunigung muss VT-x/AMD-V aktivieren ausgeschaltet sein! Danke an Dieter Brosius fР“r diesen Hinweis!
NUR VIRTUALBOX VERSION 4 UND HР“HER: Bei Virtualbox 4 wurde die BenutzeroberflР“che Р“berarbeitet, deshalb muss bei dieser Version unter Massenspeicher per Klick auf den kleinen Button Controller hinzufР“gen noch ein Disketten-Controller hinzugefР“gt werden. Mit dem Button rechts in der jetzt hinzugefР“gten Zeile Disketten-Controller, kann man auch gleich Datei aus Schritt one inch das Diskettenlaufwerk einlegen.
Da die Windows 95-CD leider nicht bootfР“hig ist, muss zuerst mittels der Bootdiskette die Festplatte partitioniert und formatiert werden. AnschlieР“end wird das Windows 95 Setup gestartet.
Nach dem Start erscheint ein Assistent; hier auf Weiter klicken.
ACHTUNG: Die nР“chsten drei Schritte beziehen sich auf Virtualbox VOR Version 4. Nutzer von Virtualbox 4 haben die Einstellungen schon im letzten Schritt vorgenommen und kР“nnen den Assistenten abbrechen.
Als Medientyp ein Diskettenlaufwerk und als Quelle РІAbbildРІwР“hlen. AnschlieР“end auf das kleine Ordnersymbol klicken
Im erscheinenden Fenster auf Р Р†HinzufР“genР Р†, und anschlieР“end die Image-Datei der Bootdiskette auswР“hlen. Zuletzt folgt ein Klick auf Р Р†AuswР“hlenР В Р’В Р В РІР‚В
Nach einem Klick auf РІWeiterРІstartet die Maschine und bootet von dem Diskettenimage. Sobald sie fertig geladen hat A: erscheint auf dem Bildschirm, das Kommando РІfdiskРІohne AnfР“hrungszeichen eingeben und mit der Entertaste bestР“tigen
Die B-Version der Diskette ermР“glicht es, die Festplatte mit dem FAT32-Format zu formatieren. Die entsprechende Abfrage kann man mit einem Druck auf Z im amerikanischen Tastaturlayout steht das fР“r das Y und der Eingabetaste bestР“tigen
Die weiteren Abfragen kann man alle mit der Eingabetaste bestР“tigen. Am Ende fordert Windows auf, den Computer neuzustarten, was Р“ber РІZurР“cksetzenРІim MenР“ РІMaschineРІder virtuellen Maschine geht.
Nach dem Neustart muss noch mittels dem Kommando РІformat c:РІden Doppelpunkt erhР“lt man Р“ber Umschalt-Р“ die Festplatte formatiert werden. DafР“r wird auch ein РІVolume LabelРІverlangt Unter diesem Namen wird die Festplatte spР“ter im Windows Explorer auftauchen. Ich habe da РІWin95РІgewР“hlt, man kann es auch leer lassen.
Nach der RoutineprР“fung kommen erstmal ein paar Fenster die man einfach mit Weiter bzw. Ja bestР“tigen kann. Beim Setup-Modus empfiehlt sich РІBenutzerdefiniertРІfР“r ein paar mehr EinstellungsmР“glichkeiten. Die anderen Angaben sind selbsterklР“rend
Die Hardwareerkennung sollte man mit der Empfohlenen Einstellung РІJaРІund mit HР“kchen bei РІNetzwerkkarteРІund bei РІAudio-, MIDI- oder Video-Capture-KarteРІdurchlaufen lassen
Bei der Komponentenwahl muss jeder selbst entscheiden, was er haben will; ich habe zum Beispiel noch zusР“tzliche Soundschemata installiert
Bei der Netzwerkkonfiguration wird durch РІHinzufР“genРІ- РІNetzwerkkarteРІ- РІHinzufР“genРІeine Netzwerkkarte hinzugefР“gt. Da wir keine Startdiskette brauchen, beim entsprechenden Fenster РІNeinРІanwР“hlen und dort und auch beim nР“chsten Bildschirm auf Weiter klicken. AnschlieР“end werden die Windows 95 Dateien auf die Festplatte kopiert
Nachdem der Kopiervorgang abgeschlossen ist, nehmen wir Р“ber РІGerР“teРІ- РІDiskettenlaufwerk trennenРІdie Diskette aus dem Laufwerk und starten mit einem Klick auf Weiter und OK den Rechner neu.
Sollte daraufhin eine Fehlermeldung erscheinen, einfach noch mal Р“ber РІMaschineРІ- РІZurР“cksetzenРІneustarten
AnschlieР“end will Windows noch Daten fР“r ein neues Benutzerkonto haben, die Zeitzone bestР“tigt wissen und einen Drucker einrichten letzteres kann man mit Abbrechen Р“berspringen dann folgt noch ein Neustart
Nach dem Neustart geben wir die Daten des soeben erstellten Benutzerkontos ein und - Tada РІuns prР“sentiert sich ein fertiges Windows 95 mit Soundausgabe und Internetverbindung wobei sich der Internet Explorer 3.0 aufgrund von dauernden Fehlermeldungen kaum nutzen lР“sst, siehe Bild
Einen SchР“nheitsfehler gibt es noch: Windows lР“sst sich nР“mlich nicht von seiner 640480 Pixel AuflР“sung in 16 Farben abbringen. Das lР“sst sich aber auch noch korrigieren.
Den universellen Videotreiber herunterladen und den Ordner Р Р†UNIР Р†der Rest ist unwichtig extrahieren z.B mit 7zip

We experienced a re-org in the office a little while back and after this I m up for the next position that I m waiting to know on. It s just like a desktop administrator position but more.
I use a bit of a nostalgia bug and I found my old copy of Windows 95 some time back. I ve been wanting to setup it within a VM so I could fiddle with it again please remember old times. I made an ISO from that, mounted it, and attempted a set up. I forgot previously that CD s weren t bootable and I didn t continue to have the boot disk. I do, however, still need my old Win98 boot disk. I think it has corrupted, however. It wouldn t matter tho, I don t think, as I simply have an external floppy drive as well as the software previously didn t support USB!
So I looked online and found some boot disk images. I also did a rapid google search to find out how complicated that it was for other people. There sure are a number of folks that experienced a lot of problems! I found that it is farely simple, to be truthful. I did obtain a few tidbits of info that reduced the problem along around my adventure to find it out. I ll have several links following the post. But here s how I achieved it:
I m running VirtualBox 4.1.2 r73507 on Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-bit
I have Windows 95 A even though the boot disk I found will last either, I believe
Make an ISO within your Win95 CD and save it somewhere. You can mount this directly in VirtualBox and that is nice. If you dont need to do it like that, you could make another virtual drive and mount it in MagicDisc another free app
An alternative is always to create a single ISO that features the boot disk and Win 95. I ve outlined that below, or you may skip to step . 4.
You may also burn both boot disk along with the Win 95 files towards the same disc but this as issues to create one, bootable CD!
On your window that comes up, the left space is to add the folders and files remember both, these are separate icons on the Win 95 CD. The icons are have magnifying glasses more than a sheet of paper and one over the folder. I added the files then each on the folders individually so they will be with the root with the file structure. Also add this system xcopy!
Click for the Advanced tab for the left after which on Bootable Disc below that.
Emulation Type: Floppy Disk 1.44MB
Boot Image: add file you downloaded from above.
That needs to be it on your discs. I recommend having two ISO s and simply mounting them in VB, but hopefully the steps above will allow you to if for reasons unknown you can t do that
BEFORE LAUNCHING THE NEW DISK you'll want to change some configuration.
Select System around the left and you are able to configure your RAM size in case you didn t already. Also modify the Boot order so the CD/DVD-ROM is first
If you don t try this step, by visiting boot after installing Win 95 you ll hang in a black screen.
PAY ATTENTION on the initial boot screen. It s likely to list two drives right over the A: prompt.
The first drive letter is the best Win 95 installation CD Mine is determined to R:.
The boot disc is automatically mounted to your A: drive.
Since that is a brand new VDI there isn't any partitioned drive. Win95 setup isn t efficient at creating one so you have for doing that.
The Win95 setup doesn t mount your CD drive when you finally reboot, thus the continued setup for Windows can t complete given it cant chose the Win95 CD. You ll have a bunch of dll errors. The OS will still boot but it really s a wide range of errors. To fix this we have to copy the Win95 CD on the C drive and we can jump on later.
Remember to substitute R: for your drive letter that yours is.
Type setup colliding with enter. It will explain to you it has to perform scan before it could install, hit enter to proceed.
You should certainly be in the setup wizard for Win 95. I ll trust it is possible to follow the prompts from this level.
When it prompts that you restart after install is a superb time to simply click Devices and unmount your bootable iso. When I restarted and then I got a boot failure, but I just used Reset inside the Machine menu to reset the therapy lamp and then it turned out fine.
It should start with the usual setup and have you a dose of input.
After another reboot you needs to be all set to work with Windows 95!
I wasn t certain if this would work but I was easily in a position to get about the internet. The bad part is most pages are choosing code that Internet Explorer 4 can t render. However, should the site still uses just basic HTML you ought to be able to render it fine.

I did a lots of trial and error trying to assume out the best way to create the ISO s and mount. It wasn t until I got the xcopy undeniable fact that it all became beautifully simple. But if I had looked inside first place, I would have witnessed xcopy was part in the downloaded boot image all along: It was fun though!

Hey I have done everything the same manner u described getting the club I need to format the virtual hard disk drive. When I type format c: inside the command prompt during setup it says invalid drive specification
hi bonezore, sorry to the late response. It s possible you have to use fdisk first a software application that should be about the boot disk and partition the drive. You can first use Fdisk to discover the partitions perhaps it got another drive letter somehow? or apply it to create one option 1, then 1 again. If advertisements by connecting fdisk it prompts you about creating a larger drive, use FAT32 rather than 16.

What will be the network setting set at just for this VM? NAT, bridged? Does your host OS develop the VirtualBox virtual network adapter installed?
Everytime I get after dark setup and my VM reboots, it will require me right back on the begining just how do i make it in order that it will remember me doing the complete setup? thanks in advance
Sorry I was out of town for your holidays together with some catching up to perform when I returned. I see you figured it. In case anyone has the identical issue. it sounds that you just had to unmount the Windows 95 ISO on the virtual machine then it stopped booting to that particular when powering on/restarting.

How do you make bootable image the principle slave? My iso always becomes the key slave when I attempt this.
Addendum, it is merely allowing me to include my bootable image to be a floppy. SO even if I add it first, I don t view it listed as the principal slave.
After you produce the VM and from it shutdown you would like to right click it from your VM Manager, head over to Settings, after which the Storage tab. Select the Controller: IDE Controller line and click the disk with all the plus sign to feature a CD/DVD. Select Choose Disk and after that browse to your ISO file. Does it say it s an invalid prompt or invalid drive letter? Try typing diskpart no quotes, hit enter then at the DISKPART prompt type list volume no quotes, hit enter. You should see your complete volumes/disk. If one with Ltr C isn t listed, you should create the C volume first. To do that, through the same DISKPART prompt you need to type assign where is the Volume on the list you only got, with the drive that must be the C drive

It s really exactly the old original? Internet Explorer. If you don t possess the globe icon with all the magnifying glass with your desktop, visit Start Programs Accessories Internet Tools and open Internet Explorer after that. were you capable of cd for the Win95 directory? are you for the correct drive c:? Did step 6 do anything copy through your automatic drive letter for a newly created c:? Are you getting any errors?
When I press enter after typing setup, all I get can be another prompt saying C:WIN95. I did receive a long list of errors after step 6, but I don t know if it s normal.
a big list of errors at step 6 will not be normal, it sounds as it didn t copy the files. Make sure you employ a c: drive and attempt to copy again. If not, you may need to produce the volume first and after that do format c:. It s possible it didn t auto create one, see my answer Trevor regard using diskpart.
