Yes XP will not be perfect but hardly slow compared towards the bloated and rushed VISTA. If you carry out a clean install with XP and also your computer remains to be slow its your hardware or you might have the wrong drivers installed. This will not be XPs fault.

Easy to manage problems, very easy to navigate. Holds enough. Tells when there is an issue and fixes it easily. Fast 85% with the time. Good household computer, tells any time a program may harm your pc, and asks if you would like to perform it.
Lags sometimes ANNOYING, is usually slow 35% on the time. When multiple tabs windows are running while doing so, every one of the programs immediately become unresponsive. When programs become unresponsive, pain from the neck to close the program down.
Overall, I have had this computer ALL MY LIFE, also it still works like brand-new. This computer is definitely an old but trusted friend, and if you need to pick out a different program, go using this. You wont regret it!:
