I am by using a Logitech G9 mouse and running VMWare Workstation 6.5.3 on Vista x64. The guest OS is Win XP, and has by far the most current version of VMWare Tools installed. Leftright buttons and mouse wheel scrolling work fine inside the guest OS, even so the backforward buttons are apparently not recognized.
I have tried installing the Logitech software inside guest OS at the same time, nevertheless it still didn't recognize the backforward buttons. I didnt really expect this to be effective since the guest OS doesnt actually understand the mouse hardware to be a Logitech G9 directly anyway.
I vaguely remember seeing something some time back about editing the virtual machine config file to specify a 5-button mouse as opposed to the default 3-button setup, but I cant manage to find any specifics on tips on how to do so inside the VMWare documentation. Does anyone determine such a workaround exists, or perhaps 5-button mouse functionality hardly supported?

Thanks - This setting works, however with one caveat: You have to enable USB around the guest then connect the mouse towards the guest with the VM - - Removable Devices menu. This does give the backforward buttons, nonetheless it also disconnects the mouse from your host OS! Since I frequently switch backwards and forwards between the guest plus the host, this isn't really a workable solution personally.
