Visual C Express Edition now has a x64 compiler?
Any idea what SKU devconnections attendees is going to be getting?
BTW, best wishes on the listview. Maybe I ve done my last repeater.
The SupportsPartialRendering property can't be changed as soon as the Init event. I never had that issue before I m not setting SupportsPartialRendering or EnablePartialRendering any place in code.
Is vid known issue? In the meantime I guess I will resume VS 2005 until I can resolve this.
If you understand how to resolve this please inform me. Thanks!
I m sure the RTM can be as good because beta promised.
Any strategies for those who will endeavor a side-by-side install with VS2005? I already have got VS 2005 wonderful 3.0 goodness on Win XP 3.0 Runtime, Windows SDK and VS extensions for WCF, WPF WF. So I ll be looking to shift my primary environment to VS2008 after I can multi-targeting could be the first thing I m trying, BTW, but simply wanted to see whether there was anything I should uninstall before slapping it on my own machine. Or most things that might cause me to get unable to uninstall VS2005 afterwards?
If I install the ninety day trial version of VS2008 Pro, will I have the capacity to convert it towards the full version when I buy it on release, or will I should reinstall it again?
A bit sad as a consequence of missing MVC!
Wow, 127mb with the full runtime redistributable. That s insanely big. Is there a smaller version in the redistributable you can download?
framework follow Moore s law too?
Just one question: I m becoming familiar with Visual Programming Language Express 2005. I ve been teaching myself C using a couple of books that seem to make use of certain Visual Studio C 2003 features that aren t quite a similar in VPL Express 2005.
Am I very likely to find myself inside the same work with Visual PL Express 2008?
I experienced a look around but I cannot find any information about comparing various versions Express, Std, Pro, Team anyone no of where I can find this info?
Congratulations ScottGu.
You plus your team did a fantastic job.
3.5 with Linq and Ajax support is wonderful.
We now look ahead to MVC and DLR fully implemented with Dynamic Languages support.
Oy! So Microsoft has finally shipped Visual Studio 2008. When time permits, I really am eager for trying it out! Hopefully Visual C native performance will
I am seeking to install the RTM of VS2008 Professional and I have a message Setup has detected this computer doesn't meet the requirements to set up this software. The message states that Windows XP Service Pack 2 should be used, though I am using Vista.
I believe this issue is because Vista is running setup in application compatibility mode. This blog post describes the best way to fix this:
What a news You made my day. Congratulation to you as well as your team for your great effort to acquire this in shut period of time. Cant wait to download the stuff
I ve been wired to determine this when your keynote at DevConnections in Vegas. Thanks to the hard work you along with your team put in this.
Scott, did you know if the Entity Framework Beta 2 is fine with the RTM bits? If not, do you possess an updated CTP are going to be available that will continue to work with RTM?
We ll be shipping the cause code to Framework including using some weeks.
I have downloaded Visual Web Developer Express 2008 enjoyed it a little. My real question is why may be the so ugly and confusing compared to your clean, 2.0 config? Sure there a wide range of new features like Linq and others, but aren t they suppose being integrated into VS at this point? Will 3.5 it's really important this messy?
The default file adds AJAX support together with LINQ. You can remove these settings if you need - playing with general you ll long for them there should you use AJAX and LINQ as part of your application.
Unfortunately the express edition only has a 32-bit compiler. The main reason was on account of size the 64-bit compiler in excess of doubles the size and style.
Any idea what SKU devconnections attendees will likely be getting?
I believe the DevConnections attendees are going to be receiving Visual Studio 2008 Standard Edition.
I get these error after converting my VS 2005 MS AJAX project to VS 2008 The SupportsPartialRendering property can't be changed following Init event. I never had that issue before I m not setting SupportsPartialRendering or EnablePartialRendering in code.
I haven t seen that issue before. If you may send me a communication with more details I can get someone in this little team to take a look and provide you with it.

Why does a few.5 framework install put in a bunch of files within the Frameworkv2.0.50727 directory? Is this to repair bugs reported with this version? Since this seems like it actually replaces file, this can cause problems with existing applications. This really needs to become made able to everyone, since replacing older files on this directory could wish for a lot more testing of existing application before some companies will allow this to get deployed to production depending for the response to this inquire.
Hi Scott, what is the reason the MVC release continues to be delayed in the 2008 RTM? Will we need to wait a lot longer to have this or possibly this not many days away?
Monday, October 15, 2007 2:31 AM by ScottGu
The MVC Framework works with VS 2008 RTM we ll be releasing the primary preview launch of it at the identical time as VS 2008 RTM. The MVC framework itself will have a home in a separate assembly to start with, and be built-in 3.5 SP1.
Do you might have any idea when VS 2008 will probably be shipped to the people attending the Dev Connections Conference in Las Vegas Nov. 5 - Nov. 8?
Hi Scott, can there be an option in Visual Studio 2008 to spotlight the current line I m editing? This feature was missing from 2005 and I really don t think it justifies downloading an addin to have what ought to be a built-in editor option.
I didn t know where else to It seems the VS Installation forum isn't being monitored. I am trying to fit on or windows 7 professional which includes NOT had any with the VS2008/Orcas Beta s installed but is my primary VS2005 machine.
Are there official signatures to the ISOs anywhere, to ensure a valid download? In particular, I m looking to the Test System one.
I used the Akamai downloader twice, but both times it made it to 99% then reported a corrupt download.
I discarded those and downloaded using Firefox, to bypass the downloader, and I managed to set up VS, even so the MSDN installer reported a corrupt cab file.
When will the VS 2008 Professional version be around to purchase, etc. for that regular peeps?
Thanks Scott! The tip about how you can share projects between VS2005 and VS2008 only agreed to be what I was searching for. Now I can honestly say, woohoo! VS2008, here I come!:-
Second: why don't you consider pricing for many people non-MSDN chumps?
I loaded VS2008 onto a new Windows Vista box with all of patches and attemptedto convert the answer files of out Visual FoxPro community website. It has no problems converting Class Library projects. However, it doesn't convert the key 2.0 Web Application project file. It displays a messagebox titled Visual Studio Conversion Wizard Error. The error message is that's rather useless. When I go through the only button OK, I can look at the conversion log file. There it says that files are converted correctly and then there s no sign from the COMException. Any hints?
Anyone else finding a message saying 3.5 pre-release is not uninstalled, gets hotter in fact has become uninstalled using the Control Panel?
Any idea what reg keys I m missing or some other manual method to wipe this?
I ve installed everything and then any menu item or if I try and close throws an oversight, Vistual Studio has encountered surprise error.
I ve repaired, and in some cases reinstalled everything. Has anybody else run into this matter?
This is awesome, I only agreed to be babycrying to my teammates to improve to VS2008:
If you might have VS2005, when you're sure that your projects work with VS2008 will there be any difficulties with uninstalling VS2005? If so just what are they and the way do you overcome them? What exactly needs to be uninstalled for VS2005?
Is there some trick to own Business Intelligence projects in VS2008? Will it work together with SQL Reporting services 2005 or must I install SQL 2008? Thanks,
1-How am i able to download your nice articles for utilizing offline?
Does this indicate VC Express 2008 are not used to build native x64 apps?
64-bit tools usually are not available on Visual C Express Edition automagically. To enable 64-bit tools on Visual C Express Edition, install the Windows Software Development Kit SDK together with Visual C Express Edition. Otherwise, a mistake occurs when you might try to configure a project to a 64-bit platform using Visual C Express Edition.
I have tried installing Windows SDK plus SDK, but cannot configure VC 2008 Express to generate native x64 EXE s. Is it possible and, in that case, any kind of step-by-step instructions on how to get this done including URl s on the exactly files/SDK s that need for being downloaded?
PS. I m loving the newest/MP multi-process build option - It s cut my compilation time by two-thirds.:
Can t wait to learn with this. Will it build up on msdnaa?
Awesome! The best development suite within the planet!
So I seen in VS2008 there is no template to produce an 2.0 Ajax enabled WAP. Do we need to generate our own template to remain creating 2.0 Ajax webs in VS2008? Is there, or there has to be an update to Ajax 1.0 to provide in VS2008 templates 2 WAPs?
After installing VS2008 over a Vita business machine I expected to determine another option running the site under 3.5. Is there suppose being another version choice for?
1 How does one get it registered thus it shows up it is possible to aspnetregiis utility just like there were for 1.1 and two.0?
2 Why was this not automatically combined with IIS7?
1 Why perhaps there is not a new edition, as this is considered a majore release and not a release that added new libraries like v3.0 did.
No classic ASP support in VS2008? What an absolute sickener. Maybe hosting is just as cheap as classic ASP hosting inside UK we can easily persuade all of our existing clients to upgrade. Perhaps Microsoft have already been a little wanting to forget hundreds of paying?
One of our own 2.0 projects boasts a typed dataset with 127 tables furthermore, as switching to VS2008 I have seen that the IntelliSense is becoming extremely slow, when it works by any means. I kid you not even so the IDE freezes for approximately 3 minutes. In VS2005 the IntelliSense responds almost instantaneously together with the exact same code. Also a rebuild from the solution 3 projects takes a lot less than 5 seconds in VS2005 whereas in VS2008 you will need over a minute. The similar behaviour will also be reproduced over a colleague s machine.
Needless to say but also in view of this Ill be reverting back in VS2005!
Is the workaround to correct multi-targeting support for AJAX 1.0 still required to the RTM version? In the workaround, you remember that this workaround are not required with the VS 2008 RTM release
However, I still can t seem for getting ajax 1.0 ready to go with VS2008. I haven t tried the workaround yet, because I would prefer to acquire it working without workarounds in the event it s now possible.
Can you send out me a contact with more specifics of this? It sounds like there can be a configuration error causing this since a delay that long probably means a timeout occuring. If you'll be able to send me a message with details you can get to your bottom than it.

I get these error when dragging the Wizard control on top of the design surface of an online page or web user control: Error Creating Control - Wizard1: The type initializer for threw and exception. Is vid know issue or possibly is it just a problem with my installation?

Framework 2.0 update not found. The win32manifest will never be embedded.
Sorry about this - it sounds such as a setup failure. If you may send me a communication with details I can loop you within someone from your setup team to assist.
I am also having the Visual Studio has encountered an urgent error. message when every I do nearly anything in Studio. I didn t possess the beta intalled, but I have a few addins Visualsvn and

In responses to a couple of question I had you responded with the next comments. Thanks for that reply. I totally have some additional questionscomments to create now.
3.5 installs something pack 2.0. Those would be the changes that you are seeing because directory. This service pack may also be installed separate 3.5 if you need.
Where to your account get the service pack for just two.0. Can you 3.5 without 2.0 SP or possibly 3.5 dependent about the SP being installed also?
3.5 actually uses 2.0 CLR - that is why there isn t an additional dropdown in IIS to configure this. As long as you 2.0 3.5 application works fine.
So 3.5 just installs additional libraries to compliment the extra features Linq, etc, much like 3.0 just added libraries for WCF, WPF, etc.
Thanks to get a great new IDE release and I cannot wait to begin using all the the latest features. Look forward towards the tutorials that you are going to be posting from the future. You team hit a property run again.
Where will be the Silverlight 1.0 project template in VS2008?
GREAT and Informative review!!
So what will likely be released on 27 February?
Thanks for replying back and finding break of your hectic schedule. You are great and I don t discover how you do it.
Maybe I should have asked the question in slightly different way I did be aware of the var keyword but didn t post an excellent question. One thing I am expecting is the fact that some people in teams like mine will switch to VS2008 and many will stay on VS2005. How do I prevent people while using language improvements including var keyword in order that projects might be opened in VS2005 and VS2008.
As usual, thank you in advance for replying.

Very newbee type question. I opened an active C project, VS2008 have the mechanics of converting the project and presenting the interface. The project is targetted 2.0 platform but I am still able to use var x10; and compile just great with no errors! Am I missing something? I thought this statement hasn't been supposed to compile if target 2.0. Please help and I apologize if this is answered already.
The var keyword is really a language keyword, and doesn t 3.5 as a way to work. So if you use multi-targetting, you are able to actually employ this in VS 2008 with 2.0 project.
Price of MSDN Subscription. 3000
Dollars spent developing VS 2008 bazillions.
Having intellisense for toughies like if and Dim. Priceless.
One thing I noticed installing VS 2008 using a Windows Server 2003 box with VS 2005 without 2008 beta/CTP version.
After I installed VS 2008, it reverted most of my configured IIS websites back to your 1.1 version from the framework from your version 2.0. Just something for being mindful of. It took me an extra or two to hook on to what actually happened.
I would choose to use C 3.0 and LINQ features within our WinForms applications, but we merely cannot force our customers to upgrade Windows 2000 to Windows XP. I expect that Windows 2000 2.0 SP1 will run my apps if I distribute some additional assemblies like and
a. The new ListView control is quite nice but why much fuss about this? The Repeater control has got the same purpose, it gives you full treating the html/layout output and produces precisely the same result in this particular specific example. Needless to convey, the Repeater control exists since 2.0. Maybe a Repeater vs ListView post can enlighten us?
b. I tried your ListView sample comprehensive. I use Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition. The sample code won t work unless that placeholder ID from the PlaceHolder control from the LayoutTemplate is changed to itemPlaceholder rather then itemContainer. This will be the error I get otherwise:
An item placeholder has to be defined on ListView productsList. Specify a specific thing placeholder by setting a control s ID property yo itemPlaceholder. The item placeholder control must specify runatserver. - -
This merely tiny fix and I mention it here in the event.
Other than that, thank you for your excellent post.
I am getting about 3x slower build times utilizing the RTM version of VS 2008 in comparison to Beta2. I was building my project inside 20 seconds and now it requires about 60. the DevEnv process is a 50% the whole time dual core, so 100% of one in the cores I would assume.
Any tips on tips on how to track down the issue?
Where s can I look for a comparison on the editions line item by line item, technical features, licensing, and expenses?
framework 3.5 might be run in windows 2000?
Hi I was running the VWD 2008 Express version beta and everything worked as I needed it from your registration process. I found using a forum that it was an error together with the program. I downloaded it then burnt it with a disc one in the two options. It turns the way round it truly is to uninstall the complete package and perform a download installation in the latest release. This has resolved the registration issue however every page I open now shows a Page contains markup that will not be valid when attached with master page The only way round that is to click about the code create a slight change ie press delete then save the page.
This allows me to carry on working. However when I reopen all pages I see the identical error again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Any ideas or perhaps is it just me????
Any update on if your framework source code will likely be available?
Framework 3.5/VS2008/Express editions install in Windows 2000 Professional/Server editions?
if i intall 2008 trail version if i want to get retail version. then i must uninstall this version first or microsoft will make solution to make it retail.
Do you already know of any specific benefits to developing Sharepoint 2007 apps portals/internet sites etc against VS 2008, apart through the general advantages that are actually mentioned.
