NewDark and, by extension, TFix uses DX9 automatically, therefore, a completely DX9 compatible graphics card with hardware pixel shaders is necessary for everything to figure properly. that will translate into Radeon9550 and GeForceFX5200 - if the graphics card is older or won't have hardware pixel shaders, the DX9 mode may, or may well not work without issues. for anyone who is still using this kind of graphics card, and observe graphical anomalies, experiment with the DX6 safemode run the sport via. or update your hardware. same applies to intel integrated graphics cards - they could work properly especially the modern ones, but consider them unsupported.

how to use the fix assumes a new, clean install of T1/TG:
1 ensure that the game isn't installed in program files or another protected windows folder.
2 run the installer, simply select the mods of your choosing pre-selected ones are recommended.
3 run shouldnt require running as admin anymore.
all credit travels to authors with the respective packs/fixes, I did not go about doing anything the bunch of cfg/ini edits and texture tweaks to really make it all come together, but anybody could accomplish that.
v1.01: fixed the funky texture about the apemen.
v1.02: added hdradeonxp fix.
v1.03: cleaned up the file structure a tad. fixed the missing cd error some GOG users had. fixed a worry with audio channels always resetting to 8. one extra keyconfig added WASD, by ZylonBane.
v1.04: added more improved textures, fixed some typos from the readme.
v1.05: added a brand new sky texture to Break from Cragscleft Prison. the one that actually won't look like 8 bit marshmallow puke.
v1.06: adjusted some textures, added correct obj model for that sword. added T1 support.
v1.07: adjusted more textures. removed the tgfix subdirectory from your archive, because was confusing many.
v1.08: added installer thanks a lot to AlB from TTLG!. some other small fixes for the textures seems like this can never end.
v1.09: added fixed missions and objects thank you to StanTheThief, antimatter16 and everyone from TTLG who may have contributed.
v1.10: added support for many Thief versions - original, out of stock, platinum, all should work, including their German and French derivates again, cheers to AlB.
v1.11: updated core files - this fixes video playback issues and crashes with hdradeons running under winxp and even more. the modern stuff might hinder saves created using TFix 1.10 or earlier, restarting the present mission is very recommended. should assist in case of catastrophic crashes or heavy rendering issues. take a look at if you think you've way too much gpu and cpu power accessible.
v1.12: fixed one broken texture, added the modern editor. the exe features a proper icon now. added more keyconfigs.
v1.13: small mission fixes occasionally, the installer now features a proper icon too. mods can be installed/uninstalled by merely running the installer again, no requirement to manually delete anything.
v1.14: updated core files to a single.20, a lot more fixes to item placements, Maw creature portal needs to be finally fixed permanently.
v1.15: updated core files to just one.21. multimonitor ho!
v1.16: more dml fixes, particularly for Mage Towers - every one of the pathfinding issues should certainly be fixed. added the USERMODS folder, any extra enhancement packs models, textures, etc really should be placed there.
v1.17: cleanup prior to map overhaul.
v1.18: corrected the name from the mesh pack sorry, Daemonite!. a number of map fixes to Cragscleft prison. EP2 ready - just drop EP2 ?t141621 into the Thief folder and it'll load automatically note: EP2 is work-in-progress, visual anomalies may occur. fix for your over-sensitive AIs beta. overhauled the Assassins level. fixed the starting region of Lost City, and Song in the Caverns. old file cleanup is currently handled differently, should help avoid difficulty with TDP crashing once the user has reinstalled the sport without deleting the folder properly. steam build of TG should certainly fully compatible.
v1.19: overhauled Training, Baffords, Cragscleft, Bonehoard, Assassins, Sword, Cathedral, Undercover, Strange Bedfellows, Thieves Guild, Mage Towers and Caverns, a number of them almost fully, some partially. another small fixes here and there the existing sword should 't be hanging inside air about the place where you could have hit something with it for that last time if you pick Constantines sword, for instance.
v1.20: yeah yeah, this is supposed to function as the interactive candle release, these days its the NewDark 1.22 update. blame the Raven. also, cleaned up Training and Mage Towers any amount, and T2 sky and EP fixes won't get put on to FMs in case the mission and/or object name function as same as with orig missions/objects.
v1.21: implemented interactive candles. more map overhauling, Cragscleft, Bonehoard, Sword, Mage Towers plus more. NecroAge ?t144312 ready, just drop the pack to your Thief folder. oldDark support readded, for those times you want to experiment with TFixed Thief on the windows95 machine, well, anyone can.
v1.22: core files updated to NewDark 1.23. included the fixed up wooden ladders Olfred says hello, may need to look much better now with HD texture packs installed. adjusted mushrooms, Felix wall signs and other sorts of objects at Bonehoard. also made the interactive candle setup a little more efficient.
in case some in the authors in the packs/fixes loathe their works being distributed like this, Ill make download down immediately.
Final note: NewDark works quite somewhat differently than the initial T1 Dark engine, so, when playing T1/TG, you will discover small differences from time to time whether you install NewDark via TFix or manually. TFix attempts to correct those basically making the maps and gamesys more NewDark friendly, but making ALL things work EXACTLY like within the original Dark engine is pretty impossible. therefore, should you prefer a 100% authentic, ABSOLUTELY true to your original experience, TFix NewDark most likely are not a good choice available for you. TFix NewDark is made for those who just want to learn nicely, with only a small amount hassle as it can be. if you're one of people that cant live without rope death bug, or complain that burricks little toe now bends in the 45 angle rather then 40, I suggest you try the Legacy executables - it is possible to install them within the TFix mod screen no support though, utilize them if you must, but dont come here crying if something does not act as you would like it to, or develop a dedicated legacy pc for retro gaming I can help with that, as I own a lot of those.
also, adding one of the links to an early beta of any fixup package for T2x v.1d, it currently lacks an installer, plus there is quite a little of redundancy, but it must be usable enough - in case you want 32bit relit missions, hipoly objects, newskies and T2 water, you might need to give it trying. the recommended technique of installing and running T2x:
patch with latest TafferPatcher, give it time to create the T2 FM shortcut
run the T2 FM shortcut, and allow it to create the FMs folder, exit
extract T2xfix to your T2x folder, overwrite
run the T2 FM shortcut, double click T2x

Had no desires work voodoo47! It actually worked, i possibly could enter the experience without any problem, before entering the experience this pops out and thus it shows me small graphics as though i haven't direct x in solid.
What must i do to prevent this stuation now?

this appears like you havent extracted all of the files on the archive you've got and inside your thief folder?
edit: no, that is actually a default warning screen that appears on each first launch. examine the dont show again box and it is going to be ok.

basically, that screen is one thing you shouldn't see, ever-ddfix part with the package should manage it I can visualize that some dumb windows security feature is denying full access or something that is, and like a result, you cannot assume all files are overwritten because they should.
as long as you have and also the new, that screen should not to be sure, the following is just the exe, try extracting it for a TG folder and overwriting again.

at first, it wanted Thief CD2 later i handled it without cd fix, done. But again that screen sprouted, as well as the graphics were the identical. Really weird.
this would explain that error message about directx not being installed-modifying can break the package, if I know it correctly, in case you just extract the archive in your TG folder, the sport will ask you for any cd? crowd true, avoid the use of any 3rdparty nocd fix, just edit with notepad, for instance, and try deleting the cdpath line completely.
i completely deleted that line on the first line, but nothing changed unfortunately. Maybe i will try Thief 2, it may well work, maybe.

My english isnt that good, so forgive me.
1 Before your patch, I was unable to experiment with Thief under Windows 7 since I re-installed a different copy of W7 with SP1 included. Before this, together with the first version of W7, I had no issues running the experience so far except with the multicore fix people need in order to try out.
Your patch allowed me to start the overall game normally again but - for a few strange reason - the levels are common painted in BLUE, without having textures - except to the sky, some few objects in some places like torches, switches and several pipes along with the characters.
Walls, ceilings, doors and in many cases the floor are painted blue. Walking by using a blue floor doesnt generate any sound of footsteps. Doors and gates will not be visible, very odd.
After some experimentation, I realize the condition seems to function as FAM folder - the river enhancement files. Removing this folder on the game directory, all textures are displayed normally again.
I wander if Im the first person to report this concern. Am I doing something wrong here?
2 Another question, concerning ddfix in Thief Gold: the overall game starts in 1024x768. The ddfix EXE allows me to line only 3 pre-defined resolutions. Is it possible to put on a 1680x1050 resolution? in the event the answer is yes, how can I practice it?
The download link doesnt seem to be effective for me. When I click it, it comes on top of Sorry, we are struggling to scan this apply for viruses. The file exceeds the most size that people scan. Download anyway. So I click Download anyway, nevertheless it takes me with a webpage that can not be found. Are the files available elsewhere?

Thank you a lot for this. I are in possession of Thief Gold working away at Windows 7 64 bit in 1920x1200 resolution.
One minor problem remains, however, I cannot begin to see the surface of any liquids. The liquids are there ie I swim when I am inside them etc and I can understand the wall below the liquid look darker versus the ones above it, there is however no texture around the surface or perhaps the texture is veeeery translucent.
Sometimes, on some liquids, I can easily see tiny little slivers in the surface texture. These slowly glide along along the surface from the liquid. If you look very carefully in the ring, you could be able to see one although it can be almost invisible on account of re-sizing and jpeg artefacts.
Ive stood a search around to ascertain if anyone else has the condition but I haven't found anything. Is this a known problem?

guys, if you've got all folders and files where they must be, problems like blue walls and missing water must not resolution need to be changed manually in, I have stated previously that.
extract the contents in the archive in your TG folder, overwrite old files.
run moves all original thief crfs for the RES certain that only is left inside root folder, all the crfs MUST be from the RES folder for things to operate properly.
edit and modify gamescreensize line to reflect the resolution you need the default is placed to 1024 768.
basically, all that can be done is make sure that you could have all folders and files with the right you've got done everything correctly, and it also still will not Im not nearly as good with compiling mods as I originally thought.

I will not have a t2skies folder either from the Thief folder or inside ddfix folder. I produced clean Thief Gold install and installed the downloaded patch. Neither an original install nor the patch included a t2skies folder.
Similarly, there isn't a FAMSKYHW folder anywhere.
My didn't contain any from the entries which you mention. I tried adding them and playing about with whether were set one or 0 where appropriate but nothing set it up water textures.

Could these be relevant somehow? The PCX files look odd. All the ones that I have checked I checked some on the ones during my install directory and some inside 7z file directly recently black images except for that top row of pixels.
The DDS files, however, look almost as much as I would expect - ie they appear like watery textures.

And there we've got it. I replaced the many PCX files in WATERHW with ones that I taken from my original game and tried again and from now on I have water textures. I have re-checked the 7z archive as well as the PCX file are just like the one I posted above so either these happen to be corrupted or some type of replacement routine for them isn't working ie the DDS files do not apparently be used but at the very least I have water textures now.
edit In fact, simply treatment of WATERHW folder through the patch install makes Thief use an original textures through the game install. Is there however to force the overall game to makes use of the DDS files? Ive tried some things but Im shooting inside dark here with folder names etc. Nothing I have tried worked as a chef./edit

files are standard. They provide the palette and texture size on the core engine, and are also replaced by ddfix while rendering. Having them in ThiefGFAM folder is OK, nevertheless it may cause problems should you install FMs which could have FAM folder too.

I wondered if it might be just what the PCX files were intended to be being employed for. For what ever reason though, my game is utilizing the actual PCX files, not simply using them to be a reference with the replacements.
I think how the ThiefGFAM folder was developed when I extracted the contents from the 7z I cant look into the 7z right this moment because Im in the office. All I did to extract the 7z ended up being to open it in 7zip, select everything and drag/drop it in the ThiefG folder then I ran the bat etc.

edit I should probably mention until this is with ddfix 1.4.5.
The version packed with all the full fix inside first post 1.3.11 and 1.4.5 give exactly exactly the same results around my game. The reason that I switched to just one.4.5 is which the ddfixGUI from 1.3.11 crashes whenever I seek to run it not too I need it.
I have tried using ver 1.5.11 but once I try and start the experience with my very own patched, the overall game doesnt start in any respect my cursor changes briefly for the waiting appearance then goes back on track. If I seek to use the patched exe for Thief Gold on the ddfix thread, it keeps prompting me to insert disk 2 in the CD drive this takes place whther the disk is inside drive you aren't.
So, I have gone time for ver 1.4.5 since it seems to function as most functional in my opinion./edit

just a tiny note-t2 skies is perfect for t2 only, and doesn't work with t1/gold.t2 skies will not be in the rest, just t2water.
