The authors are Evert and Eichhorn, which has a dedication to Peter Raven, who has become a co-author with this book series since its inception. We are teaching Introduction to Botany because of this textbook to your biology undergrads and despite discussions every so often about switching textbooks we revisit to it as the most beneficial book suited to the class. It is by many considered the flower biology bible of sorts and offers a wide introduction to botany. We have just adopted the 8th edition to the class starting next semester, but I just have taught through the 7th edition until now.
The book overall is clearly written and nicely illustrated. It gives an overview of your wide range of topics and thus contains a lots of information specifically for someone new for the field but doesnt get into a whole lots of detail on each at least at a teacher perspective. the discussion of chloroplasts arguably by far the most important organelle in plant cells fills a website and a half. The sheer level of material is simply too much to show in a one semester introductory course at sophomore level, and I usually finish up covering about half or perhaps a little more from the content. The vast number of info and massive amount topics can make it a great reference book and students whorrrre thinking of building a career in the plant-oriented field might want to hold onto it for future use while taking in the courses. Raven, by all accounts from many sources, is THE base setting textbook for botany. However this latest edition, which passes the 250.00 mark with the school books store, nevertheless 140.00 here on Amazon, was published without the most recent updates that prompted the newest edition! Chapters 31 and 32 need to be sought out, as PDF files, either out of your professor, or publisher itself. Why require the most recent edition of an textbook when that edition isn't going to include the newest updates at publication? Just another show of how publishers of textbooks rip off students and professors alike!

I bought that one because it was less expensive the US edition. The content would be the same, and quite a few chapters correlate to your US chapters, but there are numerous differences in page numbers referenced around my universitys lab manual. But all information will be the same. If you dont mind being forced to hunt a bit for info I just referenced the index to get what I needed, this is often a much cheaper alternative on the US edition.
