I deduct one overall star for the reason that games launch a lot of multiplayer tournament problems. Those appear to have been resolved inside the recent v1.02 patch which you will download automatically once you register.
BFME2 is the thing that I would call an authentic real-time strategy game. In most RTS games Starcraft, Age of Empires you might be really playing a real-time tactical game. You must focus a wide range of effort on directing your troops at the micromanagement level, telling them who, exactly, these are supposed to shoot at, one guy in a time.
The BFME series has simplified this by creating batallions. Instead of building archers 1 in a time, youll build them 15 with a time and in addition they come out being an organized batallion. You cannot educate 15 archers to concentrate fire on 1 enemy unit, you may only inform them to fire on another batallion. The details of how they direct their fire is about them. The time you arent spending directing fire very easily spent on executing a larger plan.
Consequently, BFME2 is one in the very few RTS games that rewards multi-pronged attacks and flanking. Units have a flanking bonus for attacking enemies from behind it comes with you dont need to babysit almost every fight means it is possible to leave one battle to search start up a 2nd front someplace else and not worry a whole lot about the fight you arent watching.
BFME2 also introduces a whole new resource model which greatly rewards map ownership. Rather than fighting over piles of resources and ignoring the opposite 90% from the map like RTS games, BFME2 has resource collection spread across the full map. The more you control, the harder money you will get. Read more

updated 04.02.06: I wont recap the games features or settings-others do a fine job of these. As a baseline, heres what Ive played thus far after a few days: all 20 2-player skirmishes to victory, the Good Campaign to victory, the Evil Campaign to victory, along with a War from the Ring game to victory. Ive also done some on-line playing, and Im currently working my way through the skirmishes again while using difficulty level set higher.
Its all to easy to pick up. True, I had played through BFME-1, but which was long enough ago, and BFME-2 has evolved enough, which it wasnt confirmed. The built-in tutorials were great, and, yes, since I lack a lots of free time, I bought the PRIMA game guide.
Its addictive. Not quite the electronic crack that Civ4 is, but Ive spent a great deal more time playing it during the last a few days than I than I thought I would.
I know other reviews here have complaints about installation and system compatibility, nevertheless for me its worked fine out from the box the 1.01 patch over a system that I has never been able to get Civ4 completely stable on.
I benefit from the music graphics voice work cut scenes. Of course, BFME - 2 contains the advantage of the the LOTR movie music, art design, etc.
The graphical user interface does exactly what needs to do and otherwise gets out with the way.
The difficulty in skirmishes is actually infinitely tweakable, due for the handicap system. For example, my main profile was at level 2 after finishing my first number of skirmishes, nevertheless the Medium difficulty level puts the other guy at level 4. Read more
As a major fan of real-time strategy RTS games, I found this game for being a much more than the average base-building, resource-collecting fare. To be sure, there is a lots of this type of activity required inside game, however it is presented in a fashion that does not seem bland or too conventional. The game doesn't break a wide range of new ground with the genre like, say, Dawn of War or Rise of Nations, but it really does offer an appealing spin.
Gameplay: There undoubtedly are a few options here which will keep most players preoccupied for quite a while. First, there is an campaign mode that permits for play as either the excellent or evil side. Each with the campaigns have eight scenarios which for that most part are the standard base-building, land-conquering variety. Overall, the missions are very well done and so are a great introduction for the other gameplay options. Another gameplay mode would be the War with the Ring. This is a combination of turn-based and real-time gaming through which factions try and take over a guide of Middle Earth by moving armies around. It is an exceptionally well-done gaming mode that ought to allow for a lots of replayability. Thirdly, you will find there's skirmish mode along with online play. The game includes several maps, however there is an overabundance of 2-player maps plus a shortage of larger maps one 8-player map.
Each with the six playable races men, elves, dwarves, Mordor, Isengard, and goblins feels unique enough use a range of gameplay options. Each has several units, many upgrades, unique powers, various heroes, as well as other perks. Also, the experience ships using a create-a-hero template that permits you to create your individual in-game hero. This options, while recommended, is pretty limited in regard on the appearance within your hero. Read more

The game has incredible graphics, Ill definitely have that. EA were forced to write new music to match the experience better, nevertheless it blends seamlessly using the existing movie soundtracks. Loading times arent to bad this time either, and therefore are usually accompanied using a small introction for a upcoming mission.
Gameplay itself is incredibly fun. At first when I heard in regards to the minimized interface, I got a bit nervous because I was concerned with not having enough control of the units. To some extent this can be, but Ive think it is doesnt actually get inside the way up to I thought it could. For one of the most part it serves the point I believe EA intended - you spends much less time staring for the bottom from the screen plus much more time focusing for the battles.
The forces are fairly balanced with the most part. For example, a batallion of Rohan cavalry is usually a serious force to reckon with against archers or infantry, however if they come across some Isengard pikemen theyll have met their match. Mumakil are able to do all kinds of damage, but arent so strong against archers armed together with the flame arrow upgrade. A great deal of people claim that Mordor is a bit bit weaker than the opposite forces, and Id should agree to some degree. However, good quality strategy may make up correctly. Likewise, Gandalf can be a bit too powerful once he reaches the greater levels of veterancy, but you will find counters against him likewise.
The something that really bugs me around the game would be the population cap. In the movies, the armies are huge. By having a limit of 200 or 300, you may only have 20 to 30 batallions. Thats really not a whole lot, and certainly not enough to recreate to your degree the enormous battles in the movies. Read more
Before receiving Battle For Middle Earth this Christmas Eve gotta love that darling girlfriend, I had read several dismal reviews for this. In case youve see the same BS, Im gonna attempt to clear a few things up for you personally so the nay-sayers dont bump you away from a fantastic game. The biggest complaints folks have had about BFME are:
Heh. Wrong and wrong. - - First off: There are plenty of units spread between the four playable races in Battle For Middle Earth. If people have an issue with how many units are within the game, they need to take it program Tolkien Enterprises but not the games developers. EA was just allowed to play from characters that were within the movies. And Id say they did a damn good job mustering all they could having a limited rights license.//Mordor and Isengard are crawling with assorted units, but close to heroes. Gondor and Rohan will not be the most well rounded on the subject of troop variations, but buying ya: Gondor has Gandalf his powers are truly awesome to behold in mafia wars and then Rohan is chock full of heroes. They have Theoden, Eowyn, Merry, Eomer, Gimli, Aragorn, and Legolas. So it all evens out. I dont care who says how about shortage of units. - Theyre all there. There are plenty of formations and combinations to utilise when it comes on the troop equation.
The second blundering re re misconception that some reviewers have gotten, would be the whole Yeah it's cool, however it is light on strategy tripe. Dear reader, please listen: This game has just as much strategy as Rome: Total War, Age of Mythology, or perhaps the beloved Warcraft III. Read more
EDIT: Ive been playing the action for a few days now, and I can say it has lived as much as all of my expectations see preview below. While you cant control as mnay troops just as Rome:Total War organic meat need to look for the LOTR mod inside the future, BFME possesses its own little niche, and its particular a very nice one during that. Inevitably the comparison to RTW is going to be made, however, these are two completely different games. In RTW, you may control 1000s of low-poly troops, playing with BFME, you control many very high poly soldiers, each with very detailed animations and emotions. Yes, the emotions undoubtedly are a nice part on the game.
The graphics are beautiful- they bring the Middle Earth world alive, especially using the settings at their maximum. Howard Shores score also adds an excellent side to your game, by incorporating additional remixing that sounded quite good. Voice acting has also been pretty good, although you'll be able to tell in a few parts that they can didnt really use Viggo for Aragorn.
Gameplay; I like the revolutionary use of veterancy, which puts a crimp on players who rush to build every building possible, and merely pump out units. Cavalry inside the game is incredibly powerful, so it's important to group your men in to the right formation. Formations do give some assistance in BFME, although flank attacks and tactical maneuvers are unusual, unlike RTW. All the battles are faithfully recreated, including a pursuit for defend the fellowship and Lothlorien from marauding Moria orcs one with the scenes cut from your extended edition of FOTR. The Helms Deep mission is fantastic- it brings each of the rigor, stress, and excitement as portrayed within the movie and books.
The heros certainly are a hoot to work with; especially Gandalf, who seems a tad overpowered. Read more

Best game. I now own 5 copies and listen to it with our kids. The campaign is great and multiplayer is amazing! Matches the adventures within the book/movie with character voices.
This is certainly one of my favorite games ever! I love the LOTR trilogy and the game is exactly what I hoped it might be. Im ready for that 2nd one.
For 149 you would think your box and cd container will be in great box was ripped and crushed!!
