I liked this story mainly with the historical perspective it until I looked this and found out most of the storyline was made up and handle fabrications. I not like the movie. I feel duped you can find artistic liberties and then you'll find downright lies.
For those interested he didnt employ a mom which was raped, he didnt employ a dad that's murdered, he didnt back off and steal to thrive, he didnt even become adults in GA or are now living in NC. He spent my childhood years in VA in the nice house and voluntarily left under normal circumstance to search for better employment. His wife didnt cheat or drink. He had no son that joined the Freedom Riders or was from the Civil Rights movement. He did have ONE son but he would not die in Vietnam. I think one thing that is true concerning this movie is that they was a butler from the White House. Everything else is totally fabricated.

As an individual that lived through and participated from the Civil Rights events on the era depicted in this particular movie, I find the entire vehicle not simply unnecessary, but in addition unnecessarily painful, undignified anachronistic and demeaning to prospects like myself who actually lived through those events.
I found nothing honest, accurate or redeeming regarding the juvenile morality play or perhaps the mindless and empty depiction of blacks as cardboard cutouts on this movie. The characters were syrupy one-dimensional stereotypes of Lee Daniels original story: literally cardboard cutouts of your past era having a pasted-on or painted-in plastic and false black humanity.
As always, it shows blacks very little more than spineless troglodytes, that has a second hand, hand-me-down humanity, shuffling about the White House and around white America, mostly through the night - - either humming religious hymns through fake piety, or raising hell and dicing? Like the slave images only these movie makers limited imaginations will come up with, you'll find no normal blacks or normal black families: just dysfunctional one who adhere closely for the stereotypical American plot. God forbid how the moviemakers could some day do enough research to obtain the basic facts of black life correct for once rather then leaning on old stereotypes?
