Symantec claims HERE that Norton Ghost 12 will likely be released April 18, 2007, and can officially support Windows Vista.
Update June 2007 - Ghost 12 released. Official blog post for both Ghost 12 NS R 2.0 has arrived dated April 2007.
Update since posting links to prospects two threads listed just above, the forums have since seen many posts regarding Ghost 12. For more, heres a Google search preconfigured for your query norton ghost 12.
Ive a quick look on the Ghost 12 beta. It needs dot-Net Framework 2 and resembles Ghost 10, using a slightly different GUI. The CD boots marginally faster than Ghost 10 along with the recovery environment has Ghost 10 type menus and Ghost 10 type drive letters same drive letters as WinXP.
I didnt test any in the fancy features including Remote Management, Physical to Virtual image conversion, and LightsOut Recovery.
Update 2007 - today I purchase a copy of Ghost 12 and properly created my first Windows-based back-up image which Symantec terms a Recovery Point. You can review my experience here Installed Norton Ghost 12 Created Back-up Image, referred to as a Recovery Point.
Note that I is going to be creating a brand new Rad guide, according to Ghost 12, that's significantly totally different from Ghost 2003, which the following information was designed around. I tried however, show them various concepts that might be applied to any cloning program, and that means you should still find the guide enlightening
For things relevant to Ghost 12, I also created a fresh subdomain You can find the initial under-construction G12 page here Rad Guide to Norton Ghost 12.
This is likewise my first attempt at setting up a certifiable XHTML 1.0 webpage. So it will take a tad longer to get started. Still checking specs details.
Update April 2007 - Symantec released version 2.0 of Norton Save Restore. See HERE. Version 2.0 differs from version 1.0 is ways detailed in this particular thread Norton Save Restore 2.0. The most this section refers to v1.0, which includes some advantages over things ignored in v2.0, and compares Ghost with NS R.
NS R released 2006 boasts a product named Ghost 11 that's functionally the identical as Norton Ghost 10, using the added power to back-up individual folders. Pre-Ghost 11 products only back-up entire computer drives, or individual partitions, no folders.
Update: 2006 - Good news! It appears N S R does have Ghost v8.2, which will be the corporate version on the original Ghost software, that may allow that you both create and restore images employing this software. And this version will not be crippled as may be the version that accompany Ghost 9. See this thread for details:
For your hyperlink convenience, an outside page containing this info continues to be posted here: Norton Save Restore by Symantec. I will update this article as information regarding Norton Save Restore will come in from users over the world.
With version 10, Symantec is constantly on the make Ghost simpler to use, automating still more decisions you previously were forced to make yourself. Their aim should be to bring great and bad back-up imaging towards the masses.
While applauding their efforts, I feel the should caution users that every additional feature is likely to sacrifice RELIABILITY. For example, in the event you encrypt your image file, you'll, sometime, must de-crypt it, before it is usually restored. that's one more place where something will go wrong.
For me, RELIABILITY is my 1 priority. I have to feel confident I can restore my back-up image should anything fail with my computer or disk drive.
The advantage is that Symantec carries a copy of Ghost 2003 from the Ghost 10 retail box. And I know Ghost 2003 is reliable, because Ive worn the extender to restore a multitude of images.
All the caveats about Ghost 9 hot-imaging still pertain to version 10, because they are basically a similar program. So I suggest to familiarize yourself while using way Ghost 9 works. See here: Ghost 9 hot-imaging.
New version : 2004 - Symantec announces the making of Ghost v9.0. Ghost 9 is controversial, because it's just not really Ghost. Its actually Drive Image, much the same imaging/cloning product originally created by PowerQuest, a business Symantec purchased on 2003.
The reason Ghost 9 Drive Image in disguise is controversial is simply because it supports a function Symantec calls Hot Imaging, which lets you to create images of/from your LIVE os, while files can easily change. Hot imaging might sound attractive to your casual user, however it comes with hidden risks that concern many veterans with the program.
NOTE : To keep this introduction uncluttered, the all this discussion on Norton Ghost v9.0 continues on its page: Norton Ghost v9.0 hot imaging. I recommend you examine. At the bottom of these page can be a link that can bring you back here.
If you've got no idea what an imaging/cloning program does or the way it works, you must first browse the Program Introduction. Then revisit here browse the ditty on Ghost 9 Hot-imaging.
New version : 2002 - Symantec releases Ghost 2003. This version gives a Windows-based interface. Prior to v2003, you needed too to DOS in order to build or restore a perception. Being in a position to configure Ghost from Windows definitely makes the program more user-friendly.
The official Symantec blog post is posted here. PCWorld reviews Ghost 2003 here. They still claim its for PC pros only tho. See here. In particular, notice where people say, The program is saddled that has a confusing manual, lousy Web support, and call support which costs 30 per incident.
Thats why this ebook has become very popular. It shows you everything you'll want to know. with language thats clear and understandable. Thats because doing so was authored by someone who knows how confusing Ghost may be.
NOTE : Again, to help keep this introduction uncluttered, the most this discussion on Norton Ghost 2003 continues on a page: Norton Ghost 2003. Take a look. At the bottom of their page youll discover a link which will bring you back here.

Update: 2006 - Norton Save Restore NS R is usually called Norton Ghost 11 cuz is next product released by Symantec made up of a copy of Ghost, following Norton Ghost 10.
NS R released 2006 has a product named Ghost 11 that is certainly functionally the identical as Norton Ghost 10, while using added chance to back-up individual folders. Pre- Ghost 11 products only back-up entire computer drives, or individual partitions, no folders.
The issue with N orton Save Restore is which is doesnt come that has a copy of Norton Ghost 2003, which some folks for instance NightOwl myself prefer for reasons stated HERE. Note that Ghost 9 and Ghost 10 are incredibly similar, by incorporating preferring Ghost 9 over Ghost 10.
New version : 2005 - Symantec announces the making of Ghost v10.0. The short version: Ghost 10 Ghost 9 encryption capacity to encrypt your back-up images.
There is definitely an on-going thread would be the forums about Ghost 10. See here: Symantec Norton Ghost 10, where I share my share my what it really version 10. Theres another blog entry posted here: Symantec Releases Version 10 of Norton Ghost.

I tried using Copy My Hard Drive to generate a bootable Windows 7 disk clone also it rendered the origin drive C: unbootable! I were forced to get out cellular phone DVD to correct my Windows 7 installation.
I familiar with back up my XP drives in this way using Ghost 12 and yes it worked smoothly for a long time. No backup program should modify anything about the source drive. There are several threads for the Symantec site with this and no one incorporates a clue. Save your money in case you plan on with all the Copy My Hard Drive feature.
Thank you for the feedback.
Sorry, we didn't record your vote. Please try again
1. Backing up over network, high compression, custom drivers loading is straightforward to do. You will backup in style
2. Superior and useful utilities.
3. Every imaginable problem on the legendary Ghost 2003 is fixed and improved.
4. No format anymore. The current format up to now has handled some large partition backups for me personally. Full 30GB partitions to high compression is really a breeze.
1. Right away following a partition recover, you are going to get the content Please insert the Recovery disk. It will say Error EA730002: Cannot get the driver database directory. How does this error stay inside the product? It is one confusing message to get a successful recovery. The recovery disk is basically just the ghost CD.
2. Then there could be the staged recovery mystery. With 2 identical machines in the same hardware, I can only restore towards the machine where I initially did the cold backups. I dont understand. This is ruining my confidence within the product. We are talking same motherboards, same versions, everything.
3. What other sort of hardware replacement prevents my restores? Should I buy another backup product just just in case?
Ghost 15.0 is not going to communicate with my Netwok Attached Storage harddrive from Iomega. Since the reason I bought it had been to back my system up about the NAS drive, it's worthless. Norton Support Technicians have spent a lot of time in this little computer working to make it help over a month without results. Finally the tutor said Sorry, but no refund. Every other application, includung Norton Security Suite work fine with my NAS drive so I believe Ghost 15.0 posseses an inherent flaw rolling around in its communications routine which you'll not discover until you've opened the package, thereby ruling out any refund. DO NOT BUY THIS SOFTWARE!
1. I got the product without cost as part of a fortune package of NIS 2010
2. A huge fan of Ghost 2003 for decades
3. Thought to test it out for in spite from the bad reviews
4. Backed up most of my four partitions around the 1TB HD - HP TouchSmart Q600 - All seem to get fine
5. RESTORING or not enough - Booted in the rescue disk, restored all partitions and around 55% got the please insert the recovery disk message. The recovery disk was obviously from the computer. Tried for two hours different variations one partition etc same issue. After goggling the matter also known as error ea730002 I found out there's NO solution on the issue, but 7 pages of logs of very disappointed people who cant restore their system. If you're really interested, Norton claims that the situation is windows PE platform related this will be the OS they're using for your rescue CD. I personally couldnt care less as I cant restore my computer.
6. Restored my computer to factory image
7. Downloaded an endeavor version of Acronis 2010 and it also worked like no bodies business. The only complaint that I have with them is my HP TouchSmart Q600 is actually wireless Mouse and keyboard along with their boot screen will default to booting windows vs. their rescue OS - so I were required to find a USB mouse and connect it to the restore not much of a big deal
Although Ghost backs up for an internal, usb external and network drive in my 64bit Win 7 machine, you cant restore from your network drive when with all the system recovery disk. It advises that I the user have to find and load the 32bit drivers. Symantecs advice should be to call Dell and Microsoft; Dell and Microsoft advise that it can be a Symantec issue. After 3 runaround cycles, I just lost the fight. For the record, Win 7 incorporates a built in back recovery environment which is not as robust, but somehow it truly is able to discover the network when booting from your restore cd.
I purchased Ghost 15.0 as it was billed as works with Windows 7 both by Symantec and Microsoft. However, attempted installation produced error 2738. Could not access VBScript run time for custom action. Four hours with technical support did not resolve problem. The technical staff elevated it on the engineering team who never responded my phone battery went dead while waiting over thirty minutes on hold. Finally, I got agreement to get a refund.
While the tech support team staff perceived to not be accustomed to this problem, for their own users community site I found out that this is often a well know downside to Ghost 15.0 which the tech support staff routinely refers on the engineering team who never respond.
I stongly recommend against purchasing Ghost 15.0 for Windows 7 users.
I dont usually post reviews. I am too busy also it is rare that your product impresses me enough to complete so, but Ghost 15 warrants my own time. This is without doubt the best version of Ghost yet. It even bests Ghost 2003, that has been my previous tool of preference simply for its flexibility. I have used these versions of Ghost above the years: 2003, 9, 10, 12, and 14. I have imaged this windows versions with assorted versions of Ghost: 2000, XP, Vista x86 and x64, 7 x64, Server 2000, 2003, 2003 R2 x64, 2008 x64.
Built-in windows utilities do a little backup and restore functions, nonetheless they pale in comparison to your power, convenience, flexibility, compression options, etc to Ghost 15. It is really worth 50!!! The capacity to create images on the Recovery CD is ALONE really worth price to upgrade from version 14. You are also able to generate customized recovery CDs. The recovery CD creation wizard automatically slipstreams any storage drivers you provide that happen to be unique for your hardware. The power to create VMware ESX and Hyper-V images is and a promising feature I am wanting to test. Scheduling backups is sweet to have not new, version 14 had this, however, not something I utilize much. I mostly do manual backups of baseline and incremental development images in a very test environment.
Recovery CD image creation returns with Ghost 15, which is better than ever! For reasons I dont pretend to understand probably within the interest of software sales, Symantec removed the capability to make images from your Recovery CD after Ghost 2003. This, for my uses, seriously limited the softwares overall utility. Read more
