This book, while a lttle bit dry occasionally, illustrates the movie in the spectacular fashion, and breathes new life engrossed, to ensure that it seems interesting once more. I read it eventually when I was stuck inside a hotel room, but this book was interesting I litterally can't put it down. Every true Star Wars fan should look at this, given it completly tells the story using a bunch of added stuff, that actually flesh out the storyplot and which were completly missing from your movie. Ive read an affordable share of Star Wars books, but never anything this gory or downright scary. Star Wars is generally pretty tame. So I was surprised to get this book whose cover is comprised of an bloody Stormtrooper head hanging at a chain having a hook jammed through its eye. I like old-school Star Wars, on the Classic Era, Episodes IV-VI, so I was eager you just read this to find out what the Death Troopers were information about. Well, that decapitated Stormtrooper head scene is actually within the book, as well as many others that might probably not be proudly displayed your local bookstore. Im actually surprised that it book doesnt have a warning label or sticker until this book is good for Suggested for Mature Readers. I became aware of the book over the video trailers fans had finished it. I am a huge zombie genre fan and also a Star wars junkie. This was way too good to become true. If you enjoy Star Wars, Horror, or Zombie fiction you might enjoy this book. The pacing is fast and addictive. The characters are realistic and approachable.
If there may be anything to complain concerning this book is that it truly is fast paced. For the very first time I sat down and look a book from cover to cover a single sitting. I havent owned the novel for 24 hours and have absolutely finished it. Part of me is curious to find out if there is going to be another book following your characters that survive the events inside the book or if chlamydia will become a compilation of books. Let me just say from the top that I am not ordinarily a fan of horror books. I realize which the genre is popular now, but zombies as well as the undead hold no particular appeal personally. However, Death Troopers is really a Star Wars book, so I chose to give it a try. I was not accustomed to Joe Schreiber as this is the very first of his books I have read.
The basic plot of Death Troopers is very straightforward. The Imperial prison barge Purge comes complete with 500 prisoners being transported for an isolated penal colony. In the 1st stages with the book we now have the normal form of prison story with prisoners fighting prisoners, guards exercising their capability, a warden of questionable character, etc. We are brought to most on the main characters. Then everything changes. The barges thrusters fail plus the barge comes with a halt from the vicinity of what seems to be a deserted Star Destroyer. A boarding party is distributed on to your Star Destroyer to find out if any engine parts might be found. The Star Destroyer is dark and spooky, and things quickly go amiss. Only part in the boarding party helps it be alive back to your Purge, and in addition they unknowingly bring an awful disease back together that quickly attacks the barges population. Death comes for almost all. Then the dead set out to rise accessible after the six survivors, including two surprise characters not
The primary characters are simply superficially developed from the book. We only get to learn a little bit about them. Im much more of a Star Wars fan over a zombie fan, but I was ready to give Death Troopers an opportunity. After all, the Star Wars Expanded Universe is quite flexible, able to telling stories to all manner of genres, so why wouldn't you horror?
I found Death Troopers to become a grim, dirty, depressing story. The violence and gore didnt bother me so much because the tone in the book - - it really didnt appear to be Star Wars for me, it could are actually any generic sci-fihorror franchise. I found the complete experience for being depressing, cold and inevitable. At a certain point, the tale slipped in the modern zombie movie mode, and after that on in it absolutely was all about going throughout the motions.
Minor spoiler alert: I agree with many reviewers which the addition of Han Solo and Chewbacca weakens the story plot. It was with relative ease to pick out the storyline arcs to the other characters, but once mcdougal introduced Han and Chewie the most popular SW characters, through the way, I started caring less concerning the other characters and even more about how this adventure would squeeze into Han and Chewies chronology.
I guess Im keen on happier endings. To me, Star Wars is approximately the battle of fine versus evil, and Death Troopers was sort of your monster-of-the-week experience personally. It didnt fit my expectation of the a Star Wars novel really should be, and yes it didnt thrill or entertain me like I had hoped.
Excellent book it met my expectaions and beyond. Highly recommend if you love Star Wars and horror.
