Having had downside to DirectX 9.0, I used it to uninstall 9.0 and reinstall 8.1, along with the process was successful. I dont see why Microsoft cant supply an uninstaller for DirectX, specially when they screw it up as much as they do.
Ive had this Problem for awhile now, in wanting to bo unable to properly install dx9c, however I also have great success in uninstalling it to the original 8.1 version using DirectX happy Uninstall that you can get at MDX a DirectX unofficial support site. I believe why 9c doesnt install properly on some machines can be an actual video hardware conflictcard doesnt support DX9 Hope that is of some use. Cheers
There are a few tools to uninstall DirectX 9.0, for example DirectX Uninstall, Happy Uninstaller uninstalls as much as DX 9.0b only and DirecX Erradicator. Just search the Google! This part is not hard.
The real problem arrives when you need to re-install DirectX 9.0c again! Windows XP doesnt allow you to do it; it reports the required components are actually in use, and perhaps they are! But, when you visit DXDIAG it reports Not Found, DirectX 8.0, 9.0 or 9.0b. So, why DXDIAG reports another DX version? Thats the Registry fault. So, all you have to complete is to open Regedit StartRunregedit to investigate HKLM/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/DirectX and replace the version key value to 04.09.0000.0904. Thats it. Now, check out DXDIAG and look whats the reported DX version and click on the Files tab to see if there are any problems. Good luck.

Hi all, I finally got this thing to work as well as not as easy as it usually is. First you do not should uninstall DX9.0b in any respect. Just hit this link and download the standalone version of Service Pack 2 released August 2006. Believe me, even when your windows CD says SP2 already, you will need this. Install this particular service pack and voila regedit now says DX version 9.0c. And this new service pack also improves laptop computer functionality. Check it out everybody.
