A 1982 issue of Bantha Tracks provided a preview with the Mon Calamari and named their property planet Dac Notice that i thought this was in 1982, prior to a Mon Calamari and Quarren made their first canonical appearance in Return on the Jedi. Later EU sources, including Dark Empire and The Jedi Academy Trilogy, refer for the planet as Calamari. However, in following years, most EU sources started call the globe Mon Calamari. To add on the confusion, the novel Assault at Selonia is the term for it as Mons Calamari. In the fourth season in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series, our planet is referred to as Mon Cala.
Despite its appearance at the beginning of sources, canonicity in the name Dac was basically disputed. The roleplaying game supplement Geonosis as well as the Outer Rim Worlds brought Dac into canon, noting that Dac was the name used from the natives inside their own language to the world; some newer EU material initiated a policy of to refer towards the planet with this name, where appropriate. Additionally, other recent EU literature has adopted the name Dac when speaking about Quarren CIS members.
The PC game Star Wars: Rebellion mistakenly places Mon Calamari inside the Sluis sector with the Galactic Core. The Sluis sector is in fact located within the Outer Rim. Additionally, the in-game encyclopedia entry with the planet incorrectly states that Mon Calamari had one moon, and is also one with the sources that states which the planet was initially discovered from the Empire.
