If databases named WidgetDev, WidgetTest or WidgetLive already exist on the SQL Server, the script will overwrite them.
The databases are set up and populated with data.
In this situation, you can find three steps to starting the comparison:
Its not absolutely necessary to line object mappings. However, in it there are some schema differences involving the source and target.For more information, see Mapping objects
Start SQL Data Compare if it's not already running.
You can edit the existing project, or produce a new project.
If you need to create a new project, click Cancel to seal the dialog box, and around the toolbar click New Project.
If you get existing projects, plus the Projects dialog box is displayed instead, click New Project.
In the shaded upper pane, be sure the Source and Target will Database.
In this situation, we are going to compare databases. You can also compare backups and scripts folders.
For each repository, from the Server box, type or find the name on the server which you set inside the databases.
If the databases usually are not displayed inside the Database lists, right-click in each Database box and click on Refresh, or scroll for the top on the list and click on Refresh.
To specify the tables and views you need to include, select the Tables Views tab:
By default, SQL Data Compare doesn't compare views.
To include views, for the Options tab, simply select the check box for Include views :
The Options tab enables you to modify the behavior of SQL Data Compare during comparison and deployment.
The WidgetPriceList view is actually included within the comparison.
For the WidgetPrices table, only 4 out from the 6 columns will likely be compared, as two in the column names will not match. To include the rest of the columns, you need to map the objects
To include the remainder columns, go through the Object Mapping tab:
The Object Mapping tab displays a report on table and examine mappings.
Mappings define which tables and views may be compared. For example, the table WidgetDescriptions in WidgetDev is mapped to WidgetDescriptions in WidgetLive. However, it might be mapped to the table having a sufficiently similar structure.
You are able to use the object mappings to compare and contrast tables with various or similar names.
The table WidgetPrices shows a Partial mapping, as not most of its columns may be automatically mapped.
To view and edit the column mappings, inside the Status column, click Partial for your WidgetPrices table:
In the bottom pane with the dialog box, click DateValidFrom and after that ValidFrom, then click Map to map the columns move towards the upper pane on the dialog box.
Map the DateValidTo and ValidTo columns inside same way, and then click status for that WidgetPrices table changes to Mapped.
SQL Data Compare displays a note dialog box that shows the progress in the comparison. If you simply select the Close dialog box on completion check box, SQL Data Compare closes this message dialog box automatically the next occasion that you operate a comparison with a project. For this situation, leave the setting as it's, and then click OK to seal the message box.
The comparison answers are displayed within the main window.
