I was recently contacted by somebody that had purchased my Nik Silver Efex book but was having difficulty. I mention within the book that Nik provide many useful presets on his or her site which can be free to download. These include a superb Landscape preset plus a faux infrared preset which is very dramatic. There were also links to download quite a few additional presets to the Color Efex software. When trying to reach the link I provided he or she was being redirected completely to another Google/Nik site.
The not so great news is that Google, despite every one of the improvements they've made to your Nik software, has removed the presets. I spent quite a while trawling the website and archives and will t discover the presets anywhere. Whether or not this is temporary I don t know.

I were built with a request within the weekend to deliver further specifics of how I did the Silver Efex conversion to the Friday 003 image. So here is usually a high level breakdown on the work.

I will mention though that I sometimes make notes and rough drawings to assist develop a concept before I start with the processing.
This involves making adjustments in Lightroom or whatever RAW converter you need to produce the highest quality starting image. Quite often this calls for contrast and colour adjustments that can help the ultimate conversion to B W. For example by making all of the colours stronger I can separate them better when I convert the style to non colored documents. You can begin to see the starting image below.
Here I removed the red boat around the right side as that it was distracting. I then applied Nik Dfine to clear out any noise inside image as well as Nik RAW sharpener. This produced the starting image with the conversion which you can view below.
I start with all the Neutral preset as I determine what my finished image may need to look like and I also find out how to create this. Sometimes it may help review the presets should you aren t sure what you would like to do.
First I apply a Yellow filter to help you darken the sun and lighten the floor slightly. I also raise the filter strength to 100% through the default 50%. My final step up Silver Efex should be to add in some grain. I gave up together with the grain sliders previously but recently they have got been improved and so are now quite good. Then I remembered a whole new Nik programme that I had downloaded whilst attempting to fix a challenge with Lightroom 5.2 still not fixed and thought I would try it. The filter is known as Analogue Efex and permits you to simulate a number of camera and film effects. Usually I am not stunned at such applications and be honest, looking throughout the presets I wasn t hopeful. Here are 10 free presets I want to share for those who are who are using Silver Efex Pro 2.

Most of those presets have already been designed for photos much like the one above - landscapes with green foreground and blue sky. Scroll down to adopt a have a look at what each preset does on the sample image.
Inspired by artist Gregory Colberts video Ashes and Snow.
This it's essentially a strong sepia toned preset I meant to match some of the most popular scenes in the movie.
Soft and bright highlights with dark vignette and several film grain.
Balanced to preserve most details within the highlights and shadows. I dont typically utilize this preset for landscapes however it works well for portraits and other work.
This preset has nothing with regards to Gandhi - I thought it absolutely was a fun name to get a preset.
This is near to Full Dynamic Range but more intense shadows and slightly lighter highlights.
Dark and moody, this preset sacrifices much on the shadows and a few midtones.
Blue skies are rendered flat, greens and yellows are darkened. Shadows creep into your midtones.
Dark, moody, plus a little foreboding. I wanted to make a preset that's edgy, but kept the highlights. I added a brown paper toning and created the shadows more bold because of this effect.
An interesting differ from my more typical darker landscapes. When the Soft Contrast slider is adjusted see my walkthrough the darker midtones are brightened, though the darker shadows are kept. This makes a far more dynamic grayscale image, but I have found so it does not work towards all images.
This may be the foundational preset for just a series of Silver Taint presets that includes a sepia paper tone and cyanotype color.
