Hello all. Looking to get a little help. I have owned Silent Hunter 3 and 4 for sometime and played it in my 6 year-old laptop. Santa was nice for me and I got a different laptop with windows it and patched this but when I traveled to start it I got a note saying it the OS should be of an older version XP and older. Thought it ran fine in my old laptop I was taxing the graphics plus the game itself was obviously a little slow and sluggish on occasion. I really hope we have a way for getting this to be effective on Windows 8 so I do not possess to mothball my Silent Hunter games.
Any advise will be appreciated. Any technical advise I warn so you will ought to be dumbed down somewhat
I am new to Windows 8 yet. Can you right select the desk top SH4 icon and look at the popup that appears and change the comparability mode to XP?

Thanks Yooperbacker, I must say I havent tried SH4 yet, figured if SH3 didnt work why bother. I did do a little searching determined out regarding the comparability I didnt be aware of. I really have no idea much about computers or whats within the hood as they say but I wish to give it a shot. I would hate to shelve these crossed. Thanks for responding.
People have experienced problems getting SH3 to operate on Windows 7 rather than much problem getting SH4 to function.
If SH3 doesnt do the job, dont quit. Try SH4 and pay attention to if that will continue to work. SH3 is a little older then SH4.

even in compatibility mode SH3 failed to to try can be quite a great game. I may very well be missing something though but I am quite sure I followed the steps I saw with a goggle search.
ok, some really good 4 usually to the main screen.
Tried one last 3 is officially mothballed! One is superior to none.
so with some sleep I get back it. I have installed SH3 in the different directory patched it to just one.4b and am now searching for these 5 archived files that I have discovered but require me to put in their download just need the file please!!!!! so the smart thing I did was try to find this archived file on my small old time I found it, that it was some download manage that I had to setup their a final one had absolutely nothing to do with this file I am looking I uninstall my old laptop does nothing! cant open any programs, cant hop on the internet, cant do a head unit restore, cant even get everything to run in safe old laptop has developed into boat the SH3 game.

This game was extremely buggy out from the box. Stretched textures, strange inconsistencies metric system utilized in manual/imperial system in game, along with other horror stories you could have heard of.
Yesterday a couple of days post to push out a 116mb patch was published which fixed and offered workarounds to and many other conditions.
While I understand a realistic look at modern software development, knowning that most publishers offer release day patches to finish the sport after it's gone gold and shipped - I still still find it in poor form.
That being said - I played for any few hours yesterday evening and had a great time.
First of - this can be a simulation. However it isn't as hardcore as say Falcon 4.0 - but it might be. The best thing the developers did in my view was give a sliding realism factor, whether you would like to actually utilize the in-game ruler/protractor/compass to plot your course or develop firing solutions to your torpedoes manually - or allow the AI do every one of the math - it can be done however you like. Dont want to stress about CO2 levels, Oxygen, Fuel, Battery Life? You can make it a tad easier. Thankfully we have a time dilation feature. You can play in REAL-TIME times game time over a single patrol - or you can increase to 2x, 4x, 8x, each of the way around 5000x depending on how much you need to miss. Spending hours of checking out the water might suit some - although not most I would wager.
There is absolutely nothing arcade around the game. Plotting your approach, sending crew to address stations, etc. - this is relevant for a attack. You cant just aim/target/fire similar to some games. You have to lineup and give the AI or yourself the perfect time to calculate the firing solution. Read more

Great Game! And Im not a sim-type person!
I just adopted my SH4 fourteen days ago - and I are already playing every minute I can since that time. I am not a Sim type person. However, I am addicted to SH4. I always wavered on SH3 as it seemed too sim to me - mainly, the crew management!
In SH4 the crew manages themselves for that most part, which I like. I still must move them off of the deck guns when I compress time if not they get injured and even die. I have to make sure to reclick the BATTLESTATIONS button any time a crisis has ended or the crew becomes seriously fatigued. And I have to make sure to reclick the SILENT RUNNING button for your crew to go back to repair work and/or loading torpedoes otherwise things stay broken along with the fish dont get reloaded.
The compression time is actually much faster so I travel great distances within minutes as opposed to hours. I should make sure that my speed is placed to standard or less when I compress time - otherwise my sub gets damaged somehow. I can elect to switch off many on the sim features which might bore someone much like me, who just isn't interested in each of the nuts and bolts with the ship. Most on the control buttons are super easy to locate: S for surface, C for crash dive, D for dive, etc.
I can select unlimited fuel, Batteries, compressed air, and 11 other more sub-friendly choices which make the experience less taxing for one at all like me. However, with oxygen, whether or not the realism box is unclicked still has to be monitor - the time helps a great deal as I can remain underwater only 3 hours before I MUST resurface - otherwise the crew dies! This will probably be an excellent game after it really is properly patched. They have only released patch 1.2 as I write this and unfortunately, you may still find major issues for being corrected. I am a huge fan of Silent Hunter III this is a 5 star game, with the way.
So, the action as it has become, isn't great. If you buy it now, you might join me just as one unwanted beta playtester for Ubisoft which will have waited and released the action when it had been READY!
If they continue releasing patches and fix all of the issues, this will likely be a chic game at some point within the future.
It is actually a shame, really, I would like to have already been writing an incredible review with this

A big fan of Sub Hunter III, I was very excited to find out what improvements were implemented in SH IV. My first impressions were, What in the world have they implemented to this game?
I was disappointed by slow loading time, a really different gui from SH 3, but the majority disappointing was the graphics. SH 3 had fluid, beautiful graphics in my relatively modern computer, but SH IV crawled, and I mean REALLY CRAWLED. I started my patrol in Pearl Harbor, which was probably component of my mistake, as I was getting framerates of around 4 FPS. What was worse is usually that the graphics actually looked ugly in comparison to SH 3.
If I could have returned the program, I might have inked so right then, but alternatively, I did some study online and discovered the latest game patch from Ubisoft along with advice using their company submarine simulation fans. I was in a position to tweak the experience to get 20 FPS from my computer, which was by pretty astonishing graphics.
It wasnt until my new video card arrived, an NVidia 8600 GT, that I was prepared to write this review. The video card made every one of the difference in my opinion, and now as opposed to 12 to 20 fps, Im getting 60 fps, with occasional drops to 30 fps. It only drops a lot less than this during intense battles, but during normal action, those battles are rare.
Now, on to your game. Its really more of an simulator, when you prefer fast action and somewhat mindless game-play, the game is NOT for you personally. This is a chess-players game, in this its about tactics and strategy, positioning yourself without getting detected, firing your torpedoes and living to share with about it. If you intend to get the feel of how it had been to serve inside the Pacific submarine fleet during WWII, then an is definitely the overall game for you.

Not works with Windows Eight and I suspect in different versions newer than Windows XP or Vista. This fact not mentioned inside the ad!

Ist vom Prinzip her richtogwas Du sagst. Schon seit Silent Hunter 3 dauert es bis das Spiel ausgereift ist. Dank den Fan-Moddern tut sich immerweider was.
ABER: So lange Silent Hunter von Ubistdoof vertrieben wird bzw. so lange Ubifail alles daran setzt gegen den Kunden zu arbeiten kauf ich es sowieso nicht mehr!
Wer SH5 kauft ist selber Schuld solange Ubi mit dem Kopierschutz arbeitet.
Die sollen meinetwegen nen anderen Kopierschutz reinmachen keiner der vorraussetzt das man immer Online ist dann wцrde ich es kaufen aber so ne danke.

Da hast Du recht. Aber es gibt immer ein paar sцchtige und dumme die es sich trotzdem kaufen werden.
Braucht sich auch keiner kцnstlich aufregen das die kontra-Ubisoft-Beitrцge Trollposts sind. So lange Ubisoft so nen Mцll macht sehe ich das als mein gutes Recht meine Meinung dazu zu sagen.

seh ich genauso, ich wollte mir auch SH5 kaufen aber mit dem Kopierschutz ein absolutes no go.
Ich hab mir lieber das gute alte SH3 gekauft fцr 4, 99 euro weil leider meine Originale version nicht mehr lief.
Und das is um welten besser als dieser neue Dreck.
Schade das es kein Gesetz gegen den Verkauf von Mцll gibt. Liebe Gamestar: Mach weg den Sche der Patch bringt eh nix so lange es von Ubisoft ist!
