Every on occasion Ill take a chance upon an album that I dont expect much from. This score, however, exceeded my expectations! I enjoyed how much more structered this album was compared to the first Shrek Score. For those of you that like pulse pounding rythms, Gladiator, theres very little to show here. But if you love it thematic riffs climaxing to 3 action cues, this can be a must. This score is intertwined so tightly while using film its like watching it. The only reason I provide it with four stars is that every album has room to further improve. I recommend buying this score plus the Original Soundtrack-the past track by Jennifer Saunders is often a very good listen!

Favorite Songs: All is Revealed, Muffin Man, Dragon!, Fionas Room, Annoying Talking Animal, Not Meant to Be, Magic Tea
Ive got roughly 36 hours, 14 minutes and seven seconds of soundtrack music within my collection, including terrible Pirates with the Caribbean to amazing Schlinders List and The Thin Red Line so while I most likely are not an expert, I do know good music from bad. And yes, Pirates with the Caribbean is completely terrible. Try The Last Samurai that's worlds better.
So when I bought Shrek produced by Harry Gregson-Willams and Powell I knew that they something good going, but needed time for you to refine it. And while Powell left the crew, the songs itself would still remain refined. And dont misunderstand me, this doesnt rival the brilliance of Schlinders List or The Thin Red Line, nonetheless it certainly does make an impression.
1 Prince Charming- This is often a wonderful opening song, with soft strings from the beginning setting up to the fanfare theme of Shrek. It is one from the best but doesn't deserve the title with the best song.
2 Leaving Home- Once again another surprising good song. Its calm and collective and it has the hint of pain of packing outside in its vocalization. You can check out humor and anger exerted by Shrek.
3 Far Far Away- One from the most bold songs within the album, having a nice brass opening for an interesting middle section the place that the orchestra just form of drops off when Shrek and Fiona step out from the carriage. After that, the brass increases.
4 Family Dinner- Sounds like a fiddle.
5 Fionas Room- Begins with Fionas theme, with Diaz or somebody singing inside theme and orchestra begins. Read more

Alot of The Tracks Are Great Such as Counting Crows Accidentally in Love, Lipps Inc.s Funkytown, and Others.
But Some of The Tracks Are Not That Great Such as Frou Frous Holding Out For A Hero, and Nick Caves Pepole Aint No Good.
The Best Tracks on The CD Are Eddie Murphy Antonio Banderas Livin La Vida Loca, and Jennifer Saunders Holding Out For A Hero I Thought That Was Better Than Frou Frous Version.

Reviewer Milton Abrams has now pointed out that Hallelujah is conducted by John Cale within the movie, but by Rufus Wainright about the CD. What a waste - - and just what a fraud. Cales rendition within the movie is memorable; his delivery is both haunting and dead-on. I wont critique Wainrights as it wasnt done for that movie, but suffice it to say its nowhere near Cales.
Abrams shows that this song, published by Leonard Cohen, is carried out elsewhere by John Cale. If you liked it inside the movie, youll hear a rendition thats very close with piano only, sung live by John Cale on John Cales Fragments of A Rainy Season.
I was likely to buy the soundtrack, but Dreamworks pulled an easy one and I wont go on it with modifications. Cale has written some excellent soundtracks through the years, and I was glad to see that he was featured ordinary good movie - - its unfortunate he wont obtain the benefit of being about the soundtrack which listeners wont be able to hear him do this lovely tune.

I greatly enjoyed watching Shrek. In fact, as being the father of two young kids, I believe I watched the movie seven times in a weekend when we purchased the playback quality I had not seen it within the theatre. While well suited for children, there seemed to be sufficient content for adults that neither my significant other nor I were bored. In fact, I was astounded to know the song Hallelujah inside soundtrack. While this Leonard Cohen song continues to be one of my top picks for many years, it's particularly dark and sardonic - not typical childrens fare. However, it integrate well while using plot, and John Cales version was moving, almost transcendent.
As continues to be pointed out, the soundtrack album replaces Cales version with Rufus Wainwrights. I can only believe John Cale, co-founder in the seminal 1960s band The Velvet Underground, as well as a well-known recluse and eccentric who releases infrequent solo albums consented to his version in the song being included inside movie, however, not the soundtrack album. I could also understand if there was clearly other legal or record label considerations preventing inclusion of his version. If, however, the considerations were esthetic, I think someone was badly mistaken. Others could imagine that the late Jeff Buckleys version is the top. In any event, Rufus Wainwrights take for the song, while good by itself, is hardly the equal of Cales, Cohens, or Buckleys. Rufus is really a young singer of promise and, I think, potentially more talented than his father, Loudon Wainwright, III, but one carries a reasonable expectation, when selecting a soundtrack album, of needing the actual artists from your soundtrack appear within the album.

The movie Shrek became a masterpiece! I loved Laughed my fool set off. And having looked at it thrice, the final was just of the same quality! Great characters, great voices, great story, great animation, great comedy, and quite a few of all GREAT MUSIC SCORE!!! Unfortunately the movie soundtrack doesnt measure up to your expectations in the movies fans and so I must provide it with a mere two stars.
I as well as many others who loved this movie became disappointed when I discovered there was clearly only one on top of actual score through the movie within this CD. Everyone I know who saw this film said, I love the tunes in this movie! In fairness I will claim that there are some cool tunes for this CD which will conjure fond memories in the film like Im On My Way from the Proclaimers, Like Wow by Leslie Carter, Im A Believer featuring Eddie Murphy and Hallelujah by Rufus Wainwright, nevertheless the glory with the movies musical aspect since several fans will definitely agree was its orchestra score along with the haunting, ethereal vocals that accompanied. Beautiful, original melodies that helped to build and increase the atmosphere and emotion with this movie, drawing the viewers into the story, sadly didnt allow it to become onto the soundtrack. Major bummer indeed!
Perhaps a sequel for this soundtrack follows. Fans only hope. I know I will likely be one in the first to seize it! Until then, this CD is simply an adequate passifier, but I still dig it. Two strong stars!

I docked them a star for leaving off 2 important songs.
First off, you should know which the version of Im a Believer that you simply hear around the radio and from the movie is NOT precisely the same one you have here. The radio mix is perkier plus more 60s-esque, where because the album version seems a tad bit more edgier and harder.
Also, you could possibly recall how prominent a part the song Hallelujah had within the movie. That version, the one inside the movie, was by - John Cale. The version about the album is actually Rufus Wainwright. WTH? That makes no sense.
I suggest you purchase the CD, receive the 2 missing tracks, and burn the actual version on the soundtrack.

Im very disappointed which they chose to substitute different artists for some with the songs. I really liked the version of Hallelujah within the movie, plus the version sung by Rufus Wainwright just isnt a similar. I dont realise why they didnt utilize the original artists, or perhaps put some type of warning within the cover.
